Epidemiologist III - WRIISC

HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist III to provide epidemiological, computer programming, biostatistical and laboratory procedure, research and grant development, and research management.

This position will be in support of the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) Washington, DC, and the Veterans Affairs Complex Exposure Threats Center of Excellence (CETCE), which are housed at the VA Medical Center, Washington, DC. This position will primarily work on surveillance public health exposure programs, epidemiologic investigation of military exposures and outcomes, and support a new research/clinical/surveillance tool developed entitled the Veteran Military Occupational and Environmental Exposure Assessment Tool (VMOAT).

• Initiates, designs, and implements epidemiological analyses of large complex datasets supporting research projects.
• Coordinates and assists in the development of research protocols, periodic reports, and academic products (presentations, posters, papers).
• Manages a portfolio of research projects, including proposal review and project evaluation.
• Develops and reviews research protocols, project proposals, and periodic reports for study design, analytic approach, and reporting quality.
• Provides ongoing evaluation and oversight of projects.
• Works with PI and study coordinator to maintain and update regulatory documentation, including IRB regulatory processes and compliance.
• Serves as a WRIISC/CETCE investigator with collaborators on military exposures protocols.
• Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
• Attends and participates in required role-specific training.

Education and Experience

• Master's Degree required. PhD in epidemiology and biostatistics is strongly preferred. Preference for a Federal Center post-doctoral program, such as NCI/NIH, MCC, AFHSD, etc.
• Minimum of 6-8 years of experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and ability to use and teach complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors.
• Advanced knowledge in computer programming with experience with advanced multivariate statistical methods Including clustering and PCA, multilevel linear modeling, longitudinal analysis, and non-response analysis.
• Knowledge of statistical and mathematical software including SAS, MINITAB, and BMDP.
• Preferred experience with exposure assessment and outcomes evaluation, survey research methods, occupational and exposure epidemiology and assessing biomarkers (such as serum and omics) of exposure, and questionnaire development, scoring and validation approaches.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and to work collegially with an established team of clinicians and research professionals.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

• The annual salary range for this position is $93,100-$113,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
