Department: UHC: Phys Med Grp - Dexa Job Summary: The Radiology Tech Limited-IntMed performs patient-oriented procedures and tasks within the scope of education and training for the Limited Radiology Bone Density Certification of the State of California. Prepares the patients, equipment, and supplies prior to exam. Performs bone density testing using appropriate equipment, with high quality results requiring minimal repeats. Performs regular calibration of the equipment to maintain optimum functioning. Processes associated paperwork and billing as per LLUH and departmental protocols. Communicates with physicians in a professional manner under prescribed protocols. Performs all other duties as needed. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Graduate of a certified Bone Densitometry limited license school required. Graduate of a certified Medical Assistant school preferred. Minimum one year experience in limited radiology exams; two to three years preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Bone Density testing and how to produce high quality scans. Knowledge of DXA machine calibration. Use of computer, copier, fax machine, answering telephones, calculators, good digital dexterity, hand-eye coordination to utilize assessment tools. Able to assemble, troubleshoot, and calibrate patient care equipment and perform technical patient care activities. Previous use of the EPIC EMR is a plus. Able to relate positively and professionally to patients, families, and members of the healthcare team. Able to be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, communicate effectively with others, and accept direction. Good oral and written communication skills; verbally communicate accurately and clearly. Works well with the public professionally. Thinks intelligently, capable of making logical decisions and comprehends verbal and written instructions. Ability to function in a multi-tasking environment. Ability to provide clear and objective input, critical thinking, ability to spell, read, and comprehend; understand computer and word processor equipment and information. Ability to organize, prioritize, and delegate workload, work independently and provide valid assessments with attention to detail. Can adapt to changing work conditions, cope with stressful situations and maintain emotional stability. Visual acuity of 20/40 with correction and the ability to distinguish colors; ability to hear on the phone and in person. Ability to read written and/or on-line communication. Ability to view a monitor for extended periods of time. Sight adequate to read medical records and written documents necessary to the position. Ability to identify and distinguish various sounds, touch, and smells associated with workplace/ patient care/disease processes.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 90 days of hire.
