Position Summary:


Acoustics Consulting is a Strategic Growth Services business unit responsible for architectural acoustics, environmental noise and vibration consulting and existing facility acoustic assessments. The Sr Acoustics Consulting Manager provides leadership in the growth direction of the acoustics group. They collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders to enhance building performance and support business growth. The Sr Acoustics Consulting Manager will focus on planning, developing, and managing acoustics consulting engagements for owners with large, multi-site facility portfolios, including healthcare systems, higher education campuses, performing arts and venue operators, and corporate workplace portfolios. This position requires both strategic vision and group management, including managing budgets, mentoring staff, and guiding clients through complex acoustic design and remediation challenges.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's or master's degree in acoustics, architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a closely related field required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in architectural acoustics and noise and vibration control consulting required, with a focus on large-portfolio clients such as healthcare systems, higher education institutions, and performing arts or venue operators.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience effectively leading or managing small teams, including facilitating team and client workshops, and developing strategy recommendations required.
  • Relevant certifications such as INCE Board Certification (Institute of Noise Control Engineering), membership in the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), National Council of Acoustical Consultants (NCAC) affiliation, or LEED Accredited Professional preferred.
  • Proven experience in project management required, including leading complex, multi-faceted acoustics consulting projects and managing budgets required.
  • Experience in working with building design, construction processes, and building operations required, including coordination with architects, MEP engineers, and facility owners on acoustic performance requirements required.
  • Experience with room acoustics and noise modeling frameworks and applying quantitative analysis to sound isolation, reverberation, and noise control scenarios required.
  • Strong understanding of room acoustics modeling, noise mapping, and sound isolation modeling tools and software programs (e.g., ODEON, CATT-Acoustic, EASE, INSUL) required.
  • Knowledge of acoustics standards and codes such as ANSI S12 series, ASTM E90/E413/E492/E336, ASHRAE 189.1 sound criteria, WELL Building Standard sound concept, and local noise ordinances required.
  • Expertise in architectural acoustics, noise and vibration control strategies, and sound isolation design for specialty and mission-critical facilities required.
  • Strong experience with environmental and community noise impact assessments, noise cancellation system design, and developing enterprise-wide acoustic design standards for large-portfolio clients required.
  • Experience with existing facility acoustic diagnostic assessments, including field measurement, remediation planning, and benefit-cost analysis for noise control retrofits required.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects on-time and on-budget, while maintaining a high level of client satisfaction required.



Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:



Strategy Development & Leadership:



  • Lead the development of the annual growth strategy for the acoustics consulting group in collaboration with SGS leadership.


  • Leverage opportunities and relationships internally across Henderson Companies and externally across the industry to develop business growth.


  • Assist in the development, establishment, and maintenance of relationships with strategic partners and customers in support of and to expand business opportunities.


  • Provide input on client engagement strategies, project pursuits, and project execution.


  • Participate in client, company, and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.


  • Work in close collaboration with HEI sectors and HBS teams to develop, define and execute company-wide strategies.


  • Lead initiatives targeting acoustic performance improvement across large facility portfolios, identifying innovative solutions to reduce noise complaints, improving occupant comfort, and support regulatory compliance.


  • Provide mentorship to junior staff on room acoustics modeling, noise and vibration analysis, and sound isolation design, ensuring the team has the skills to execute projects successfully.



Client Relationship Management:



  • Understand clients' business environments, challenges, and strategic priorities to craft tailored solutions that align with their goals and drive long-term value.


  • Partner with sector project managers to create and maintain client communication strategies that deliver a consistent client experience.


  • Align technical execution to maximize client satisfaction.


  • Oversee complex acoustics consulting projects across large facility portfolios, including planning and budgeting.


  • Spearhead new initiatives to support architectural acoustics, noise and vibration control, and sound isolation design, expanding the acoustics consulting practice across Henderson's sectors.


  • Work closely with building owners, architects, and engineers to understand their acoustic performance goals and provide tailored solutions for noise control, sound isolation, and room acoustics.



Business Operations:



  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations across consulting engagements.


  • Drive process improvements and best practices within the acoustics consulting group.


  • Develop methodologies, frameworks, and tools that enhance the team's ability to deliver value to clients.


  • Assist leadership in executing the financial strategy to meet financial and performance metrics.


  • Assist with staffing coordination efforts including cross-sector staff sharing to ensure proper bandwidth and profitability targets are met.


  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure profitability and operational efficiency.


  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliver regular progress reports to leadership.


  • Provide guidance and feedback to team members, ensuring high-quality outputs across all project phases.



Business Development:



  • Leverage opportunities and relationships internally across Henderson Companies and externally across the industry to develop business growth.


  • Participate in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.


  • Identify new business opportunities and help grow the consulting practice by expanding relationships with existing clients and attracting new ones.


  • Contribute to proposals, presentations, and negotiations to secure future consulting engagements.



Thought Leadership & Research:



  • Publish thought leadership content and represent the firm at industry events and conferences to elevate the firm's brand and expertise.


  • Stay ahead of evolving acoustics concepts, frameworks, and technologies by conducting ongoing research, helping the organization and clients implement innovative practices.
