What to Expect
The Software Development Engineer, New Product Introduction is a key technical member who designs, writes, and ships production software that connects cloud backends to on-prem factory systems across Megafactories, cell production, and Powerwall sites. This role owns the path from a live production problem to deployed software-diagnosing the issue, writing the code, integrating with factory systems, and operating the solution through Git, tests, CI/CD, and rollback. The Software Development Engineer will also turn production problems into working AI solutions, from whiteboard to deployed MVP, then harden them for live factory use. This includes partnering with supervisors, line leads, process engineers, and site IT, spending time on the line to validate solutions, and turning one site's working approach into reusable playbooks, runbooks, and integration standards that can be replicated across Tesla Energy manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Design, write, and ship production software including Python services, TypeScript and React tools, APIs, and data pipelines that connect cloud backends to on-prem factory systems across Megafactories, cell production, and Powerwall sites
- Own the path from a live production problem to shipped software. Diagnose the issue, write the code, integrate with factory systems, and operate the solution through Git, code review, tests, CI/CD, containers, and rollback
- Turn a production problem into a working AI solution, from whiteboard to deployed MVP, then harden it for live factory use. Integrate agents and models with APIs, authentication, data hookups, logging, latency, evals, and uptime requirements
- Partner with supervisors, line leads, process engineers, and site IT to translate production problems into production-grade software. Spend time on the line to validate the solution. Debug across systems not originally built by this role, including agents, APIs, data feeds, and network boundaries, when production is waiting. Travel to Energy manufacturing sites as required
- Define and improve measures of software and process performance in NPI, including OTD, parts tracking and adoption of deployed tools, and the resulting impact
- Turn one site's working solution into a reusable playbook. Create and update documentation, runbooks, and integration standards so solutions can be replicated across sites and production signal can be fed back to the product team
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in at least one of: Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript
- Familiarity with REST APIs and basic web development concepts
- Understanding of software development fundamentals: version control (Git), testing, and debugging
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Willingness to travel to Energy manufacturing sites as required
