Summary:

The Executive Coach supports the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy to foster a coaching culture aligned with the organizational goals and leadership development priorities of UNC Health (UNCH) and the UNC School of Medicine (SOM). This role provides individualized executive coaching to senior leaders (Executive Directors, AVPs, and above) across UNCH and SOM. Coaching engagements are designed to strengthen leadership capability and effectiveness while accelerating personal and professional growth. In addition, the Executive Coach contributes to the design, development, and delivery of coaching programs and training initiatives that advance a sustainable coaching culture across UNCH and SOM.

Responsibilities:

Executive Coaching

  • Deliver confidential, customized coaching engagements tailored to individual leader goals, challenges, and development areas
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships grounded in professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality
  • Partner with leaders to define clear, measurable goals and develop actionable strategies to achieve them
  • Facilitate self-awareness and reflection to enhance leadership effectiveness and behavioral insight
  • Hold leaders accountable for commitments and progress, providing ongoing support and constructive feedback

Leadership Coach Community Management

Support management of and develop guidelines for the internal leadership coach community (approximately 90 coaches), including:

  • Establishing and maintaining community guidelines and best practices
  • Supporting coach awareness of and adherence to guidelines
  • Promoting engagement, collaboration, and continuous development
  • Supporting coaching platform integrity and utilization

Coaching Culture & Program Development

Support the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide coaching and leadership development programs aligned with organizational goals, including:

  • Professional Development Coaching Community (PDCC) for certified and credentialed coaches
  • Coach Training Academy (ICF-accredited program leading to Certified Professional Coach designation)
  • Coaching skillset training programs for teammates across the organization
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of coaching curricula, learning experiences, and program evaluation methods

Marketing & Strategic Initiatives

Support internal and external marketing efforts to increase awareness and adoption of coaching programs and services

  • Contribute to broader Executive Coaching (EC) team initiatives, including:
    • Mentor coaching
    • Executive onboarding
    • ROI and impact studies
    • Group coaching programs

Education Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline. Master's degree in Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* International Coaching Federation PCC credential required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Requires five (4) years in program management, preferably in a healthcare or leadership development context.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Understanding of adult learning principles, coaching methodologies, and leadership development best practices. Familiarity with organizational structures, change management, and stakeholder management. Building strong relationships with senior leaders, HR, coaches, and program participants. Managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines efficiently. Staying up to date on trends in coaching, leadership development, and the healthcare industry Utilizing data to inform program development, coach selection, and program evaluation.
