The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, security, and lifecycle management of communications networks supporting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and mobility solutions. This role within Econolite's Professional Services Group focuses on translating project requirements into secure and reliable network solutions, integrating field devices and ATMS platforms, and providing technical leadership throughout project delivery. Candidates should possess strong networking expertise, cybersecurity knowledge, and the ability to support complex, distributed transportation networks while building trusted customer relationships.

DUTIES:

  • Design, implement, and optimize network architectures supporting ITS, ATMS, Centracs Mobility, field devices, and regional communications systems.
  • Configure and deploy enterprise and industrial network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and remote communications equipment.
  • Integrate traffic controllers, detection systems, video systems, sensors, and other field devices with traffic management platforms.
  • Implement cybersecurity controls and network security best practices to support resilient and secure transportation systems.
  • Develop and execute network testing, validation, and acceptance procedures to ensure successful system deployment.
  • Troubleshoot network performance, connectivity, interoperability, and security issues across distributed customer environments.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to customers, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Systems Consultants, and Quality teams to ensure coordinated project execution and successful customer acceptance.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, test reports, and deployment procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate network performance using management and diagnostic tools to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with customers and stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8-15 years of progressive experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise or industrial network infrastructures.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, multi-site, distributed communications networks.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent networking platforms.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, MPLS, OSPF, spanning tree, and Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Experience configuring and supporting routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and remote communications technologies.
  • Knowledge of network segmentation, firewall policies, network access control (NAC), and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with fiber optic, Ethernet, cellular, and wireless communication technologies.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools including SNMP, Syslog, packet capture, and network management platforms.
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies, cloud networking principles, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, and customer-facing support.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work in office, field, and operational environments, including Traffic Management Centers (TMCs) and active roadway locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to travel 25% to 50% as required for project and customer support activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Primarily an office-based role requiring prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and travel occasionally for meetings, training, or company events as needed.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT

COMPENSATION

The base pay range for this full-time exempt position is $125,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year plus benefits. Pay ranges are determined by various factors, including role, experience, and location. The pay range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire base pay rates for this position. Within the range, actual individual compensation is determined by various factors, including location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
