Responsibilities

The AWS Platform Engineering Manager is a hands-on technical leader responsible for the reliability, security, automation, and evolution of the organization's Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. This role leads a team of engineers who follow disciplined software development life cycle practices, use infrastructure as code, and build repeatable patterns that enable secure, scalable, and consistent cloud adoption across the enterprise.

The manager owns AWS platform standards, technical direction, reusable engineering patterns, and delivery practices. This role develops forward-looking roadmaps, drives automation through Terraform and pipeline-based deployment methods, and ensures cloud services are secure, resilient, cost-effective, compliant, and aligned with business priorities.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $100,400 - $203,000 per year plus bonus. The base salary indicated for this position reflects the compensation range applicable to all levels of the role across the United States. Actual salary offers within this range may vary based on a number of factors, including the specific responsibilities of the position, the candidate's relevant skills and professional experience, educational qualifications, and geographic location.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountability 1: Technical Leadership & Execution

    Lead and mentor a team of platform engineers while remaining deeply hands-on in solution design, architecture decisions, and complex troubleshooting.
  • Serve as a technical authority for AWS platform services, infrastructure as code, cloud architecture patterns, automation practices, and secure by design principles.
  • Own AWS platform standards and contribute directly to the design and implementation of resilient, secure, reusable, and scalable cloud solutions.

Key Accountability 2: Platform Operations & Reliability

  • Oversee the administration, optimization, and ongoing operation of AWS environments supporting critical business services and product engineering teams.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of cloud-hosted workloads through proactive monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Balance operational stability with innovation, managing technical debt while enabling new capabilities.

Key Accountability 3: Strategy, Roadmaps & Innovation

  • Develop and maintain AWS platform roadmaps that align with organizational goals, application modernization needs, security requirements, and future technology demands.
  • Identify, evaluate, and introduce AWS services and cloud-native capabilities that improve platform reliability, security posture, developer experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable engineering initiatives and measurable outcomes.

Key Accountability 4: Automation, Security & Governance

  • Drive automation initiatives using Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, reusable modules, configuration standards, and repeatable deployment patterns that reduce manual effort and improve delivery consistency.
  • Collaborate with security, compliance, and finance stakeholders to implement best practices for cloud security, governance, and cost management.
  • Promote a culture of software engineering discipline, continuous improvement, operational excellence, security-by-design, and adherence to SDLC practices across the AWS platform engineering team.

Envisions how Old National's responses to trends may impact our longer-term vision and strategy while formulating a clear strategy that will accelerate ONB towards its strategic goals. Challenges the status quo to develop new ways of thinking encouraging curiosity beyond the current state. Conveys opportunities to realize the organization's purpose, strategy, and culture in a way that captures attention, arouses emotion and compels others to act despite obstacles.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven hands-on experience managing AWS cloud environments at an enterprise scale, including platform operations, networking, security, automation, and governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop engineering teams while maintaining strong individual technical contributions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Expertise in AWS cloud architecture, Terraform, automation, CI/CD delivery practices, identity and access management, security, observability, and operational best practices.

Preferred

  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Security Specialty, or similar.
  • Experience developing AWS platform governance models, Terraform module libraries, automation frameworks, SDLC-aligned delivery practices, or cloud operating models in complex environments.
