What to Expect

Consider beforesubmittingan application:

This position is expected to start around January/February 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, Full - Time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About The Team

Come join a small team of engineers building one of the largest device telemetry data platforms at Tesla, powering vehicles, Optimus, energy products, Autopilot, manufacturing, and more.

We ownthe hybriddata lakes, catalogs, streaming, and query systems that give engineering and operations secure, fast, scalable access to raw and aggregated data. First-principles thinking is core: data is how we understand and improve how our products work in the world, from Autopilot and fault detection to grid optimization.

We are beginning the journey of robotaxi and robotics telemetry for Optimus and beyond. Your work will improve how hundreds of Tesla engineers use data daily, make products more reliable and cheaper worldwide, and advance Tesla's mission to build a world of amazing abundance.

We'relooking for a talented engineer to own and evolve big data platform services at the intersection of storage, access, query, governance, and automation, including the path to an AI-aware catalog and agent-first experience.


What You'll Do
  • Employ and improve industry-leading, scalable, distributed open-source technologies
  • Build back-end systems from scratch that are capable of handling trillion+ events daily
  • Facilitate operation of highly available distributed systems at scale and across multiple locations
  • Facilitate others in deploying, operating, and extending upon your clean, tested code
  • Help define a platform that is highly leveraged, multi-tenant, and self-serviced
  • Work with data engineers and data scientists to drive efficient solutions from the platform
  • Help define the data story and enable data-driven solutions at Tesla, both technically and culturally

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field with a gradation date between 2027- 2028
  • Proficiency in Java , Python or Scala
  • Ability to relocate to Palo Alto, CA for the entirety of the internship position
  • DevOps/SRE abilities a huge plus
  • Strong programming fundamentals, particularly in data structures, concurrency, and Java
  • Understanding of a complex distributed system, such as Kafka, Spark, Trino or ElasticSearch is a plus
  • Previous experience building and optimizing highly available, scalable, distributed back-end services also a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $40.00 - $56.00 + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
