Inova Health is looking for a dedicated Coding Improvement Coordinator to join the Physician Billing team. Full-time Day Shift: Monday-Friday, general office hours, working remotely.

This position is eligible for remote work for candidates residing in the following states - VA, MD, DC, DE, FL, GA, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, WV.

Coding Improvement Coordinator PB Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates educational opportunities and appropriate in-service educational sessions for the coding staff that address identified opportunities for improvement, answer coding questions, and introduce new coding guidelines or trainings surrounding new technology and procedures performed at Inova.
  • Provides one-on-one, small group, or large group onsite and/or remote education as needed. Identifies needs and coordinates in-service education or recommendations for the development of claim edits, warnings, and hard stops in EPIC as warranted.
  • Assists with training and performance audits of new Coders. Performs second-level coding validation reviews.
  • Provides training and information to the coding validation staff, departments, and physicians when necessary.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail to minimize coding errors, legitimately optimize reimbursement, and ensure accurate billing.
  • Accurately reviews unlisted codes for appropriateness of code selection while performing education and feedback, when necessary, to minimize the amount of unlisted code selection.
  • Performs timely reviews of coding analyst queues to review charge sessions that have errored due to service/billing provider not populating correctly or charges entered into incorrect departments.
  • Deletes erroneous charges from providers that are not employed by Inova Health System. Makes updates and identifies trends that need EPIC analyst intervention to correct for permanent resolution.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED
  • Experience: 5 years of coding and or audit experience
  • Certifications:
    • Must have one of the following credentials upon hire: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or COC
    • Must hold a current audit credential such as CPMA or CEMA or be able to obtain within six months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIRCC credentials upon hire
