Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a civilian Opthalmology Technician supporting McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

Job Details:

    Full Time Opportunity
  • Monday through Friday | 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • No nights, weekend, holiday, or on-call responsibilities
  • Full-time Benefits Offered
  • 11 paid Federal Holidays per year

Job Requirements:

    • Degree/Education: Successful completion of a formal ophthalmic technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.
    • Certified by the American Optometric Association or Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA) or Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT)

Job duties include but limited to:

  • The standard qualifications (duties) or the labor category are as follows:

    • Order and dispense military spectacles. Fit patients with spectacles and instruct patients on contact lens procedures. Assist aircrew members in aviator contact lens and night vision goggle program.
    • Assist flight personnel in the occupational vision program.
    • Record patient case history, conduct visual screening tests such as visual acuity (VA) test, cover test, pupillary testing, color vision, depth perception, visual field charting, and tonometry for analysis and interpretation.
    • Instill approved ophthalmic drugs.
    • Perform ophthalmic functions as needed.
    • Prepare patients and perform as special surgical assistant in clinical procedures.
    • Administer ophthalmic drops and ointments, apply ocular dressings, perform suture removal, and obtain eye cultures.
    • Track Aircrew members who are part of the Air Force contact lens program, using excel spreadsheet and the Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS).
    • Track military members in ASIMS and make sure patients have gas mask inserts if required
    • Track office supplies and notify property custodians what needs to be ordered
    • Track corneal refractive surgery patients on excel spreadsheet
    • Upload/scan patient ancillary test into AHLTA records
    • Uphold infection control standards, sterilize instruments, and wipe down exam rooms using CaviCide Wipes
    • Order clinic medications from pharmacy
    • Order trial lens contacts for clinic stock and patients
    • Assist with front desk operations, not to exceed 20% of clinical duties
