Job Description

The Center for Child Well-Being, housed within the Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Maternal-Fetal Care Center in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women's Health, seeks a Nurse Health Educator to support the Maternal Health Access Project.

About the Maternal-Fetal Care Center (Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women's Health)

The Maternal-Fetal Care Center provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for women with high-risk pregnancies through an academic practice committed to excellence in patient care, education, research, and innovation. The Center brings together Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists and a broad network of multidisciplinary partners, including General Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neonatology, Pediatric Subspecialties, Genetics, Cardiology, Anesthesiology, and other specialists, to provide coordinated care for complex maternal and fetal conditions. The Center's comprehensive services include outpatient and inpatient maternal-fetal medicine consultation, a robust ultrasound program with an AIUM-accredited Ultrasound Unit and echo-certified sonographers, comprehensive genetics services, and specialized multidisciplinary programs such as the Cardio-Obstetrics. As an integral part of the University of Missouri School of Medicine, the Center also provides an outstanding educational environment for medical students, OB/GYN residents, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellows while advancing clinical research and innovation in high-risk obstetric care.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and deliver standardized education for healthcare professionals on cardiometabolic conditions during pregnancy and the postpartum period, including live virtual education and on-demand learning opportunities.
  • Develop provider toolkits, nursing protocols, patient education materials, quick-reference guides, and other resources to support evidence-based maternal cardiometabolic care.
  • Serve as the primary clinical contact for participating healthcare practices and support implementation and sustainability of evidence-based practices.
  • Provide practice facilitation by assessing needs, identifying barriers, coordinating education and technical assistance, and helping practices integrate maternal cardiometabolic care into existing clinical workflows.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between participating practices, Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists, and the MHAP Hub team.
  • Coordinate telehealth protocols and workflows to support timely and effective consultation with MFM physicians.
  • Support the availability and appropriate exchange of remote patient monitoring information, including blood pressure and continuous glucose monitoring data, and assist practices with resolving workflow barriers.
  • Assist participating practices with patient navigation, including high-risk referrals, telehealth scheduling, resource identification, care coordination, and connection to healthcare and community resources.
  • Support quality-improvement activities related to hypertension bundle compliance, postpartum blood pressure follow-up, diabetes screening, telehealth utilization, referral completion, remote patient monitoring enrollment, and maternal outcomes.
  • Track educational activities, participation, and other program metrics and contribute to grant reporting and annual program reports.
  • Use program and quality-improvement data to identify opportunities to strengthen maternal cardiometabolic care and improve program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, program staff, healthcare organizations, and community partners to support implementation of MHAP services across participating healthcare systems and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work Hours:

  • Please note that this position requires some after-hours and weekend shifts to provide full coverage for our resource access hotline. Hours may shift on a weekly basis.
Shift

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Occasional nights and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of clinical experience, which provides knowledge, and understanding of medical terminology, patient diagnoses, treatment protocols and disease process.
One of the following:
Master of Social Work degree, or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensure by the Missouri State Committee for Social Workers board, or
Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days, or
Occupational Therapist (OT) licensure by the Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy, or
Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) licensure by the Missouri Commission for Speech-Language Pathologists, and Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) certification from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), or
Physical Therapist (PT) licensure by the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts or PT Compact multi-state privilege. When primary state of residency changes, compact state PTs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Preferred Qualifications

Credentials: Current Missouri licensure as registered as a nurse.

Years of Experience: minimum three years of experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Maternal health expertise.
  • Experience managing hypertension and diabetes.
  • Knowledge of rural healthcare systems and the needs of rural communities.
  • Education or professional experience in cardiometabolic care.
  • Experience educating healthcare professionals and developing clinical resources.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Experience with telehealth, practice facilitation, quality improvement, or patient navigation.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, organizational, and clinical judgment skills.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annually
Grade: PAT - 009
