Job Summary

We're looking for an Associate Automation Engineer to help accelerate production growth within Chromalloy's advanced aerospace manufacturing operations. In this role, you'll develop, implement, and sustain automation technologies that improve throughput, equipment reliability, process stability, and product quality across critical turbine component manufacturing processes. Your work will directly support capacity expansion, process innovation, and operational excellence as we scale to meet increasing customer demand.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design, implement, and sustain automation solutions that improve throughput, equipment uptime, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across critical aerospace manufacturing processes, including coating, precision grinding, EDM, and inspection operations.
• Support the qualification, automation, and stabilization of new products, transferred work, and advanced manufacturing equipment.
• Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and optimize PLCs, robotics, machine controls, vision systems, sensors, motion control systems, and operator interfaces.
• Integrate manufacturing equipment with data acquisition systems, MES platforms, and digital manufacturing technologies to enable real-time process monitoring and performance analysis.
• Enhance automated and in-process inspection capabilities to improve quality, reduce rework, and increase first-pass yield.
• Lead cross-functional automation projects in partnership with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, and external equipment suppliers.
• Support equipment validation, capability studies, process qualification, and production release activities in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.
• Analyze equipment performance data, downtime trends, and process metrics to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
• Develop standard work, troubleshooting guides, operating procedures, and preventive maintenance documentation for automation systems.
• Provide technical guidance and training to operators, technicians, engineers, and maintenance teams while supporting rapid recovery from equipment issues

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 0-2 years of engineering experience in automation, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, precision machining, industrial equipment, or a similarly regulated environment.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing automation technologies such as PLCs, HMIs, robotics, machine controls, vision systems, sensors, automated inspection, data acquisition, and integrated production equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues using structured problem-solving approaches and leverage data to drive process improvements.
• Strong project management, organization, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple functions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering/automation software tools.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting automated manufacturing processes within aerospace, turbine engine components, coatings, precision machining, grinding, EDM, inspection, or other advanced manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of MES systems, digital manufacturing technologies, and manufacturing data analytics.
• Experience with process validation, equipment qualification, capability studies, and production launch activities.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, root cause analysis, 8D problem solving, 5-Why methodologies, or continuous improvement practices.
• Exposure to Industry 4.0, industrial automation networks, machine connectivity, AI-enabled manufacturing, or digital-thread initiatives.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, fumes, dust, and varying temperatures.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving throughout production areas.
• Ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting and equipment inspections in an active manufacturing environment.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to work around automated equipment, robots, CNC machines, and industrial systems while following established safety procedures.
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety requirements.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non-exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions. We evaluate each candidate individually to ensure fair and competitive pay decisions.
