Overview

Apogee has an exciting new opportunity for a Database Administrator SME to support cutting-edge database management, optimization, and security efforts for US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) across three separate client-server systems in a program/classified environment. This role involves administering enterprise Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)-including Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, and Postgres-within virtualized and cloud environments, while ensuring strict information assurance compliance through DoD STIGs, database auditing, and security patching.

This is a full-time opportunity located at Offutt AFB, NE



Responsibilities

    The Database Administrator manages, maintains, supports, and optimizes the database for three separate client-server systems in a program/classified environment. Use effective analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to resolve issues and inform leadership on health, growth, status, and potential issues for all three systems
  • Work closely with both STRATCOM and STRATCOM-supported personnel and contractors to maintain and optimize the database on all three systems.
  • Install, configure, patch, and maintain enterprise Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)-primarily Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, or Postgres-within virtualized and cloud environments.
  • Monitor database health, troubleshoot complex database-related issues, manage indexes, and optimize complex SQL queries to enhance system performance and prevent mission downtime.
  • Manage user access, privileges, and permissions. Implement DoD STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides), database auditing, and security patches to maintain strict information assurance compliance.
  • Design, test, and execute automated backup, recovery, and failover strategies to guarantee continuous operation of strategic mission systems.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to configure secure data gateways, orchestrate ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, and maintain data schemas.
  • Identify requirements based upon need or as the result of a security database issue that puts organizations' systems at risk
  • Evaluate and recommend secure remote configurations for databases
  • Liaison to the Enterprise Architect, WAN, LAN, and Enterprise Management Teams to effectively communicate and architect database solutions
  • Develop documentation to support ongoing security database systems operations, maintenance, and specific problem resolution
  • Collaborate and coordinate appropriate IT staff to implement solutions which will meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Functions as database technical lead during a security incident response
  • Ensure that the design of hardware, operating systems, and software applications adequately address database requirements for the Computing Environment (CE), including testing cybersecurity mitigations
  • Develop and produce database documentation for program Secret, Top Secret, and JWICS networks
  • Perform technical assessments on new technologies and generate "Best Practices" for implementations of new technologies
  • Establish database processes that satisfy complex system-wide requirements


Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Clearance: Must possess and maintain a TS w/SCI eligibility
Certifications:

  • Possess a DoD 8140 equivalent to 8570 Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II certification (Security+, GSEC, etc.)
  • Certified Database Administrator (Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or better).

Education: BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline
Years of Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, 5 years of which must be in the DoD, to include:

  • Strong knowledge and experience applying DoDD 8500.1 Information Assurance, DoDD 8520.1 Protection of SCI, DoDI 8510.01 Risk Management Framework (RMF) for DoD Information Technology, DoDM 8140.03 Cyberspace Workforce Qualification and Management Program, and DoDI 8580.1 Information Assurance in the Defense Acquisition Process used for the analysis of user, policy, regulatory, and resource demands
  • Extensive Linux knowledge/experience
  • Experience with one or more database query languages (SQL, NoSQL, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of database practices and USSTRATCOM database organization, operations, and objectives
