The Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research (CCAR) is seeking a PostDoctoral Associate.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Conduct research on the use of GNSS reflectometry (GNSS-R) and other remote sensing observations for monitoring water resources-such as snow water equivalent, soil moisture, and streamflow-in mountainous watersheds such as the Colorado River headwaters, and to integrate these observations with hydrologic and hydroclimate models to improve water resource characterization and prediction.
  • Collaborate with a group of research associates, postdocs, and PhD students with diverse engineering and science background in the Center, the Aerospace Engineering Sciences Department at the University, and the broader Earth science and remote sensing research and education community in Boulder, Colorado.

What You Should Know

The anticipated start date is November 1, 2025. The appointment will run through 10/31/2027, but may be extended pending funding.

The starting salary range for this position will be $60,000-$70,000 annually.

What We Require

Applicants should hold a PhD in engineering or a related science discipline (such as aerospace, civil and environmental, geodesy, physics, geology, etc.) and have experience in hydrology, hydroclimate modeling, or remote sensing of the water cycle.


What We Would Like You to Have

Knowledge of GIS and geospatial data processing (e.g., QGIS/ArcGIS), coding in Matlab and/or Python, and good communication skills are preferred. A background in hydrologic and land surface modeling (e.g., VIC, HEC-RAS, or similar tools) and evaluation of climate/reanalysis model output against observations, experiences in field data collection and processing of hydrologic or environmental datasets, publishing and proposal writing, and independent research skills are desired.
