Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the College of Education is to prepare and develop professionals in vocational teacher education and information/office education through effective teaching, the dissemination of knowledge, generation and application of research, and service to the educational business communities. The College is committed to the purpose of preparing educational and business professionals who are both academically and technically proficient. The teacher education programs share the additional purposes of preparing professional educators who are reflective in practice, committed to the intellectual empowerment of others, and guided by the larger democratic purposes of American education.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Educator Licensure and Compliance Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for teacher and other school personnel licensure within the educator preparation program ( EPP). This position manages licensure protocols and processing across four colleges that participate in the educator preparation program, handling the end-to-end licensure process for program completers, ensuring institutional compliance with North Carolina Department of Public Instruction ( NCDPI) requirements and accreditation standards, and providing expert guidance to candidates, faculty, and external stakeholders navigating licensure pathways. The position processes a high volume of license applications and recommendations within the NCDPI Online Licensure System, in addition to numerous requests handled outside that system. The Educator Licensure and Compliance Coordinator plays a critical role in helping candidates transition from program completion to professional practice in North Carolina and beyond. This position is located within the Office of Academic Programs and Educator Preparation within the College of Education, reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Educator Preparation.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Licensure Processing and Recommendation (45%) - Manage educator licensure processing and recommendations for four colleges within the Educator Preparation Program across 50+ licensure areas; verify candidate eligibility and application completion, complete out-of-state verification forms, and serve as the primary liaison with NCDPI on licensure applications and recommendations.
Policy and Compliance (15%) - Ensure compliance with NC State Board of Education and NCDPI licensure and program approval requirements; oversee Upper Division to teacher education admission processing, monitor policy and regulatory changes, coordinate required state and federal reporting, and maintain documentation for audits and accreditation reviews.
Data Management and Reporting (15%) - Provide licensure-related data reporting and analysis, including maintaining accurate candidate and licensure information across institutional and state systems; reconciling license exam and candidate data; generating licensure and completer reports; and supporting state and federal reporting requirements.
Communication and Resource Development (15%) - Provide guidance to candidates, completers, faculty, and external partners regarding licensure requirements, testing, applications, reciprocity, and credential verification; resolve licensure inquiries and application issues; and develop and maintain licensure resources, seminars, and informational materials.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Coordination (10%) - Support the Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Educator Preparation with licensure initiatives, CEP coordination, reporting, and decision-making; collaborate with faculty and program staff on licensure matters; and perform other duties as assigned in support of the College of Education and Educator Preparation Program.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, preferably with major coursework emphasis in education, public administration, or other related fields and two years of administrative experience.
* Experience in higher education, educator preparation, or a North Carolina K-12 public school setting
* Demonstrated attention to detail and experience managing complex records with accuracy
* Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated proficiency with database systems, spreadsheets, and office productivity software
* Demonstrated experience applying detailed and complex policies and regulations
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
*Master's degree from an accredited college/university
*Prior experience with the NCDPI Online Licensure System and North Carolina licensure processes and policies
*Prior experience working in an NC educator preparation program
