HDR is looking for a Senior Structural Project Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services Business Group in Walnut Creek or Folsom, CA office. This individual will be responsible for the structural design of facilities in support of a variety of markets including Technology, Corporate/Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power, and Federal. They will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. They will be responsible for the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction. Experience in structural design and detailing of building related projects is required. This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound structural engineering designs.

In the role of Senior Structures Project Engineer, we'll count on you to work under guidance of the NorCal structural leads to:
  • Be responsible for structural EIT's, junior engineers, designers, and/or modelers toward technical training and development and project delivery

  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects, and resolve problems of greater scope and complexity

  • Serve as EOR to perform, plan, direct, and monitor all structural aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff

  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule

  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently

  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions in conjunction with other Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines

  • Assist in the responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support

  • May function as an Assistant Project Manager and assist in responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections

  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews

  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues

  • Assist in ensuring that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system

  • Implement, monitor and support company policy

  • Assist in the selection, training, development and management of technical personnel

  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts

  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software

  • Experience in design calculations and layouts

  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood

  • Requires understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis

  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm

  • In-person office culture

  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • SE License

  • Experience with condition assessment, structural evaluations, and seismic retrofit

  • Experience with environmental (water/wastewater) structures design

  • Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years design experience managing various civil/site design projects
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience

The expected compensation range for this position is $135,240.00 - $210,000.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
