Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminology

Job Duties

Job duties and responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses (current teaching load is 5 classes [~16 credits] per academic year), advising undergraduate students who are majoring in our department's programs, participating in research/scholarly activities and maintaining an active research agenda, and providing service to the department, college, campus, discipline, and/or to the local community. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to both the Criminology major and Sociology major.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. (by June 30, 2027, from an accredited institution) in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, or Sociology.
• Teaching experience and ability to teach in the core curricula of Criminology (Introduction to * Criminology and/or Criminological Theory and/or Research Methods and/or Statistics).
• Evidence of an active research agenda.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference will be given to candidates who have a focus on social inequality in their teaching and/or scholarship.
• Area of specialization is open.
• Preferred candidates will show evidence of effective teaching.

The Department of Studies in Justice, Culture & Social Change invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Criminology at the rank of assistant professor to begin Fall 2027. The Department of Studies in Justice, Culture, & Social Change is a unit of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). Pay Range: $62,000 per year - $66,000 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
