We are seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer II - Electrical & Automation Focus to lead and support product testing initiatives that drive the development of industry-leading commercial vehicle solutions. This position plays a critical role in managing test execution, designing test systems, acquiring and analyzing data, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure product durability, reliability, and performance.
What You'll Do
Lead Test Execution
- Review incoming test requests and verify test requirements are clearly defined.
- Support selection of appropriate laboratory equipment and testing methods.
- Partner with test technicians and mechanics to set up and conduct testing.
- Troubleshoot products and test equipment to identify and resolve issues.
- Ensure all testing activities are completed according to requirements, schedules, and budget constraints.
- Document findings and prepare comprehensive test reports.
Develop Test Methods & Equipment
- Design test fixtures, equipment, and control systems to support validation activities.
- Perform 3D CAD design and structural analysis (FEA).
- Design electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and environmental loading systems.
- Develop and implement PLC, automation controller, and servo-hydraulic control programs.
- Integrate instrumentation and sensors into testing platforms.
Data Acquisition & Analysis
- Configure instrumentation and data acquisition systems for laboratory and vehicle testing.
- Install and utilize sensors including strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, accelerometers, thermocouples, and flow meters.
- Analyze test data, identify trends, validate performance against specifications, and communicate results.
- Create reports, graphs, and visualizations to support engineering decision-making.
- Support mobile testing activities and field data collection efforts.
Project Leadership & Collaboration
- Collaborate with engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Coordinate testing schedules and communicate project status.
- Support data acquisition planning and sensor selection.
- Work with structural analysts to correlate test results with modeling and durability predictions.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise to improve SAF-HOLLAND products.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with the development and maintenance of testing procedures and quality documentation.
- Support calibration programs and laboratory quality initiatives.
- Participate in technical committees and industry organizations as needed.
- Stay current on emerging testing technologies, methods, and standards.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum three years of test engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, machinery design, or a related field.
- Valid Driver's License.
Technical Expertise
Experience or knowledge in:
- Design of experiments and root cause analysis.
- Failure analysis, durability testing, and fatigue testing principles.
- Test fixture design and operation.
- Hydraulics and fluid power systems.
- Electrical circuits, wiring, instrumentation, and sensors.
- Data acquisition hardware and software.
- Engineering drawings, specifications, and industry testing standards.
- Interfacing with external testing laboratories and technical authorities.
Software Experience
Preferred experience with:
- SolidWorks
- Ansys
- nCODE
- LabView
- MATLAB
- MathCAD
- TruckSim
- MTS
- Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
- Origin or similar analytical software
Leadership & Communication Skills

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, climb, and work with laboratory equipment.
- Regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
Travel
- Approximately 15% travel required, including support of mobile testing activities.
