ELECTRICAL SPECIALIST

GENERAL FUNCTION: The electrical specialist is capable of installing electrical equipment, wiring, terminating and testing for all electrical services aboard new construction of commercial marine service, navy, LNG vessels, and oil field drill ships. Reports directly to and works under the general direction of the electrical foreman.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

*Alarm monitoring controls installation, wiring, termination and testing.
*System controls installation, and testing, i.e. motor operating valves, calibrating 4-20 milliamp instrumentation, testing using Hand Pump, Druck Calibrators, Process Meters, Decade Boxes, etc.
*Main switchboard, main transformer installation, wiring, termination and testing.
*Generator controls, load bank testing, etc.
*Radio, radar, sonar, fire control installation, termination and testing.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
*Proficient in reading and following approved engineering drawings with the ability of recognizing discrepancies in relation to the build specifications.
*Comprehend and follow schematics/notes, wiring diagrams/notes, and vendor manuals.
*Understanding of hazardous area equipment classifications, and IP ratings for proper installation.
*Familiar with Variable Frequency Drives.
*Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
*Experience Using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
*Familiar with updated Codes; DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API/MODU/NEC/IEEE/IEC

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
*8 years' experience in the Marine Ship Building and Offshore construction including Hazardous Areas classifications and equipment.
*Formal electrical training; i.e. 4 year electrical apprenticeship program, vocational certification, trade school for electrical commercial/industrial wiring or equivalent.
