JOB SUMMARY

This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in corporate and construction accounting while giving the intern exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of a Staff Accountant.

The Accounting Intern will support general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close activities while working alongside experienced accounting professionals. In addition to traditional accounting responsibilities, the intern will participate in special projects focused on data quality, process improvement, automation, and the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) using AI-enabled software and other technology tools.

This internship is ideal for an accounting student who wants practical experience beyond the classroom and an opportunity to learn how accounting, technology, data, and business processes work together within a large and growing organization.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules

  • Review and analyze general ledger (GL) accounts for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification

  • Assist with researching and resolving account discrepancies and reconciling items

  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and other accounting analyses as requested

  • Review financial and operational data to identify inconsistencies, incomplete information, or potential data-quality issues

  • Maintain supporting documentation for accounting transactions in accordance with company policies and internal controls

  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering and organizing supporting documentation

  • Work with members of the Accounting team and other departments to support accurate financial reporting and data integrity

  • Participate in data-quality and data-cleanup initiatives designed to improve the accuracy and consistency of financial and operational information

  • Assist with process-improvement and automation projects, including identifying opportunities to reduce manual work and improve accounting workflows

  • Document accounting processes and create or update standard operating procedures (SOPs) using AI-enabled process documentation software and other technology tools

  • Assist with accounting systems, technology, and other departmental initiatives

  • Perform research, analysis, and other ad-hoc accounting projects as assigned

  • Participate in team meetings and gain exposure to various areas of the Accounting department and broader business operations

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with Accounting preferred

  • Completion of introductory accounting coursework prior to the start of the internship

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel and Word

  • Effective communicator across diverse teams, including PMs, drafting, field staff, and fabrication shops.

  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and detail-focused.

  • Productive in fast-paced environments with strong multitasking skills.

  • Able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workload efficiently.

  • Skilled at building trust and long-lasting professional relationships.

  • Excellent problem-solver.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Junior or senior standing in an Accounting or Finance degree program

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

  • Interest in process improvement, data analytics, automation, or accounting technology

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.

  • No or limited exposure to physical risk.

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
