Position Description:

A postdoctoral research scholar position is available in Dr. Manicassamy's Laboratory, in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine to investigate the viral and host determinants of respiratory virus-induced cytokine storm and immunopathology.

Our laboratory studies how interactions between respiratory viruses and the host immune system determine disease severity, with a particular interest in influenza viruses and antiviral immune responses.

The project will combine viral immunology, mouse models and genetics, cellular immunology, multicolor/spectral flow cytometry, and next-generation sequencing approachesto define the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying protective versus pathological immune responses during respiratory viral infection.

We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. with a strong background in viral immunologyand expertise in cellular immunology and flow cytometry. Experience with respiratory viruses, NGS, and/or bioinformatics is desirable.

Salary will follow the NIH postdoctoral stipend pay scale and will be commensurate with experience. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is a majoy research and teaching center with a strong national reputation.

Education Requirement:


  • Ph.D in Virology, Microbiology, Immunology


Required Qualifications:


  • A strong background in viral immunology.
  • Expertise in cellular immunology and flow cytometry.




Desirable Qualifications:


  • Experience with respiratory viruses, NGS, and/or bioinformatics is desirable.
