• $22.11 - $32.07 Hourly
• $45,998.58 - $66,698.11 Annually
• Non-Negotiable Starting Pay: $22.1147 Hourly / $45,998.58 Annually

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday, 7: 00 AM - 3: 30 PM. However, these hours are determined by the department and are subject to change. Other possible schedules could include Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE:

As a Facility Support employee within the Water Pollution Control Division, you will play a hands-on role in supporting the operation, maintenance, and overall functionality of wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, and collection systems throughout the City. You will assist with daily facility upkeep, grounds maintenance, cleaning operations, and material handling activities that help ensure treatment plant operations remain safe, efficient, and reliable. Your work will support skilled maintenance staff with mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs while helping maintain clean and operational facilities through routine maintenance, snow and ice removal, equipment operation, and general labor activities. Through safe work practices, teamwork, and dependable service, you will contribute to protecting public health, supporting environmental compliance, and maintaining essential City infrastructures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Support the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, collection systems, and related infrastructure.
• Perform facility and grounds maintenance activities including mowing, trimming, washing, painting, cleaning, and snow and ice removal.
• Clean tanks, channels, troughs, screens, equipment, work areas, and other wastewater treatment facilities to maintain safe and efficient operations.
• Assist skills maintenance personnel with mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general repair work.
• Operate trucks, loaders, and other equipment for hauling materials, snow removal, salt spreading, and facility support activities.
• Load, unload, transport, and organize tools, equipment, supplies, and operational materials.
• Collect wastewater and industrial samples and assist with routine operational support activities.
• Gather, prepare, and maintain routine operational, maintenance, and technical records.
• Inspect work areas and equipment to identify maintenance, housekeeping, or safety concerns and report issues to supervisors.
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and equipment safely and effectively in support of daily operations.
• Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, other departments, and members of the public.
• Follow established safety procedures, departmental policies, and environmental compliance practices.
• Respond to operational and weather-related maintenance needs as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working familiarity with wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, collection systems, and related operational support activities.
• Understanding of basic maintenance practices, equipment operation, and general labor procedures used in facility support work.
• Safe operation of trucks, loaders, hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills when working with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and the public.
• Ability to understand, follow, and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Awareness of occupational hazards, safety procedures, and environmental practices associated with wastewater and maintenance operations.
• Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
• Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work activities safely and effectively.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• One (1) year of experience in general manual labor, grounds maintenance, or related work preferred.
• Experience operating maintenance equipment, trucks, or related tools preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B) with air brakes endorsement, or equivalent, within 6 months of hire.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work under varied weather conditions.

Residency Requirement

AFSCME employees shall live within a 20-mile radius from the City's Emergency Center, located at 1630 8th Avenue in Moline, within 180 days of hire.
