Position Title: Senior Accountant

Department: Accounting

Reporting to: Controller

FLSA Status: Exempt
Location: Denver, CO

Walton Enterprises is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join the team as a Senior Accountant. The ideal teammate will have the demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and present financial statements and reporting for use by management and other stakeholders.

About the Position

The Senior Accountant provides financial reporting and analysis in support of leadership, family clients, and related entities, while supporting the financial and operational activities of multiple business entities across a broad range of disciplines. This role prepares and reviews financial statements, consolidations, cash activity, and related schedules and analyzes complex financial information, while collaborating across departments to ensure accuracy, compliance, timely reporting, and best in class service to clients. Serving as a trusted accounting resource to internal clients, the Senior Accountant provides technical accounting expertise and guidance as needed, The Senior Accountant also is expected to proactively identify and contribute process improvements, mentoring, and project-based accounting initiatives.

What you will do

Support the financial operations of assigned clients and entities by preparing accurate, complex financial statements and reports, overseeing cash activity, managing financial consolidations, provides guidance, mentoring and development to other team members and collaborating with other departments to deliver accurate, high-quality financial information.

Responsibilities

    Manage client relationships by advising on finances, including reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, consolidations, and related schedules.
  • Monitor and coordinate cash balances and activity, supporting timely payments and accurate accounting records.
  • Prepare journal entries for payroll, depreciation, investments, and other assigned accounting areas.
  • Analyze financial information and prepare reports, insights, and supporting materials for management, principals, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments to prepare financial packages and customized reports and respond to financial information requests.
  • Prepare schedules and financial information needed to support tax compliance and tax return preparation.
  • Analyze processes, recommend improvements, and contribute to department efficiency.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, and work reviews to support team development.
  • Delegate and collaborate with Accountants and Staff Accountants to ensure accuracy and timeliness of work.

Skills needed

  • Strong financial and technical accounting and reporting expertise grounded in GAAP.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide meaningful insights.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, accuracy, and attention to detail across multiple priorities.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and explain financial information to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and collaborate across teams.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential financial and client information.

Qualifications required for success

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a professional setting required.
  • CPA certification or master's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with Microsoft Business Central, Solver, Power BI, and Looker preferred.
  • Experience with complex ownership structures, consolidations, and exposure to individual tax-preparation experience preferred.

Benefits Information

Compensation Range: $120,000 - $150,000
