| Position Purpose |
Seeking a Research Assistant
III to support the laboratory of Dr. Arminja Kettenbach (Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology and Dartmouth Cancer Center). The Kettenbach lab focuses on the role that Phosphoprotein Phosphatases play in maintaining cellular homeostasis and how these processes go awry in diseases such as cancer. Furthermore, the lab uses and develops mass spectrometry-based proteomics and phosphoproteomics approaches. |

III levels, depending on candidate experience and qualifications - however, only one position will ultimately be filled. Education:
- Bachelor's degree with a major in one of the Biological Sciences or the equivalent.
Experience:
- Five years of relevant laboratory/ research experience.
Skills & Knowledge
- Highly competent in several laboratory methods, procedures and techniques as well as the equipment and instruments.
- Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
- Ability to manage laboratory inventory and records; and to keep records.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Editorial skills for preparation of reports.
- Ability to work with and willingness to be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals.
- Knowledge of computers and software applications.
- Knowledge of standard computer software packages for data analysis and presentation, and on-line literature search engines.

- Collaborates with the principal investigator in the definition of the research problem and the development of the research hypothesis and approach.
- Independently designs, sets up and monitors experiments.
- Identifies, troubleshoots and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design; methods, procedures and techniques; or equipment and facilities.
- Develops and implements new or modified research methods, procedures, and techniques to meet research requirements.
- Ensures adherence to laboratory safety requirements including general and chemical/hazardous waste safety disposal methods.

| Description |
Data Collection/Preparation:
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets data resulting from experimentation to present findings with tentative conclusions to the principal investigator.
- Prepares and makes oral presentations of research findings and their significance in various settings, such as departmental/laboratory staff meetings, conferences, and meetings of professional societies.
- Prepares drafts of reports, summaries, and manuscripts to communicate results and implications of the research.
- Recommends directions in which research should progress.

Laboratory Management:
- Oversees the day-to-day management of the principal investigator's laboratory to ensure proper use, maintenance, and availability of equipment and supplies.
- Instructs others in laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required.
- Advises on the need for and type of equipment purchases; locates manufacturers and suppliers.
- Communicates respectfully with a diverse community.
