Phlebotomist II

Location: 1336 Union St, Schenectady, NY 12306

Duration: 3+ Months

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-10:30 AM, with alternating Saturdays, 7:00 AM-11:00 AM

The Phlebotomist will perform blood draws and specimen collection while ensuring accurate labeling, processing, storage, and transportation of specimens. The role also involves maintaining patient information, following laboratory procedures, and supporting efficient workflow.

• Perform venipunctures using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Collect, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes and physician orders.
• Verify patient information and test requisitions for accuracy.
• Explain the blood-drawing/specimen collection process to patients clearly and courteously.
• Package and prepare specimens for transportation while maintaining specimen integrity.
• Follow established procedures for specimen storage and temperature requirements.
• Maintain records and complete required maintenance and decontamination activities.
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and laboratory protocols.
• Attend required annual department training.
• Answer telephone calls and assist with laboratory-related inquiries.
• Support troubleshooting, workflow recommendations, and training as assigned.

• Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Valid Phlebotomy Certification, where required by state regulations.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow laboratory procedures accurately.

• TB: Required.
• Hepatitis B: Titer required; if not immune, candidate may receive vaccination or decline.
• Color Vision Screening: Required.
• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
