Senior Learning Experience Designer, Live & Blended Learning

Contract Length: 6 months

Location: Remote

Pay: $115 per hour

About the Role

We're seeking a highly experienced Senior Learning Experience Designer to support the design and evolution of high-impact onboarding and leadership learning experiences.

This role is ideal for a learning designer who excels at creating live, instructor-led, and blended learning experiences and understands how meaningful practice, peer learning, reflection, and behavior change come together across both in-person and virtual environments.

The designer will join work that is already underway, with existing strategy, research, content, pilot experiences, and participant feedback available as inputs. The successful candidate will bring strong independent learning and experience design judgment to those inputs, challenge assumptions when appropriate, and translate them into cohesive, pilot-ready experiences.

This is a senior, hands-on design role. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable thinking through the architecture of an experience and building the assets needed to deliver it, including presentation decks, scenarios, exercises, facilitator guides, participant materials, and supporting tools.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the end-to-end design of live, virtual, and blended learning experiences for managers and senior leaders, from initial concept through pilot-ready delivery.
  • Translate business objectives, learner needs, research, existing content, and stakeholder input into clear learning outcomes and compelling experience designs.
  • Redesign an existing in-person leadership onboarding experience to strengthen how new leaders build business context, cultural fluency, relationships, and judgment.
  • Evolve an existing practice-based leadership experience into a virtual format while preserving the value of realistic practice, peer learning, reflection, and judgment-building.
  • Design realistic scenarios, simulations, exercises, discussions, and reflection moments that allow participants to apply concepts to ambiguous, real-world leadership situations.
  • Determine the appropriate structure, sequence, flow, timing, facilitation approach, and content-delivery strategy for each experience.
  • Create polished, pilot-ready learning assets, including facilitator and producer guides, presentation decks, participant materials, worksheets, scenarios, exercises, and supporting resources.
  • Apply strong visual and information design principles to communicate complex ideas simply, clearly, and engagingly.
  • Prototype and test design concepts quickly, using participant feedback, stakeholder input, and pilot learnings to continuously improve solutions.
  • Partner closely with strategists, product leads, subject matter experts, and other designers while independently driving the learning-design work.
  • Design with a global audience in mind, creating experiences and assets that can scale and adapt across regions where appropriate.
  • Provide recommendations beyond the initial design brief when research or design judgment indicates a stronger approach.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in learning experience design, instructional design, leadership development, or a closely related field.
  • Significant experience designing learning for experienced professionals and leadership audiences.
  • Deep expertise in facilitated, instructor-led learning across both in-person and synchronous virtual environments.
  • Strong command of adult learning, experiential learning, human-centered design, and behavior-change principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design learning through practice, including scenarios, simulations, role practice, peer consultation, case-based learning, and facilitated discussion.
  • Strong ability to translate complex or ambiguous business and leadership concepts into simple, engaging learning experiences.
  • Excellent visual communication skills and the ability to independently create polished presentation decks and participant-facing learning materials.
  • Demonstrated experience creating facilitator guides and designing experiences that can be successfully delivered by facilitators other than the original designer.
  • Ability to work effectively from incomplete or evolving inputs, exercise sound design judgment, and make progress without highly prescriptive direction.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, including experience working with senior leaders and subject matter experts.
  • Experience working iteratively, prototyping quickly, incorporating feedback, and improving designs based on participant and stakeholder signals.
  • Ability to manage multiple interconnected workstreams while delivering high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing leadership development, executive education, manager development, or new-leader onboarding programs.
  • Experience designing learning around judgment, decision-making, culture, feedback, or other topics where there may not be a single correct answer.
  • Experience converting successful in-person experiences into effective virtual experiences rather than simply replicating the classroom format online.
  • Experience designing global learning experiences for participants across functions, regions, and cultural contexts.
  • Strong graphic or presentation design capabilities and proficiency with common creative and prototyping tools.
  • Facilitation experience, even if facilitation is not the primary responsibility of the role.

Key Strengths

The strongest candidates will bring:

  • Experience design expertise: Ability to architect cohesive learning journeys that connect content, practice, reflection, and behavior change.
  • Hands-on execution: Comfortable moving from strategy and learning architecture into polished, production-ready assets.
  • Facilitation fluency: Deep understanding of what makes live and virtual instructor-led experiences engaging and effective.
  • Strong judgment: Ability to assess incomplete inputs, challenge assumptions, and make thoughtful design decisions independently.
  • Iterative mindset: Willingness to prototype, test, learn, and continuously refine experiences based on real participant feedback.
  • Global perspective: Ability to design learning that is adaptable across cultures, regions, and professional contexts.

Working Environment

This is a 6-month remote contract supporting high-impact leadership and onboarding experiences. The role requires a highly collaborative designer who can work independently while partnering closely with strategists, product leads, subject matter experts, and other designers.

The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where priorities and inputs may evolve, and where strong design judgment, thoughtful collaboration, and hands-on execution are equally important.
