More than five decades after humans last walked on the Moon, NASA is preparing to return astronauts to the lunar surface through the Artemis program. Leidos is supporting that mission by designing, producing, integrating, and testing critical human spaceflight hardware, including the Laser Air Monitoring System (LAMS) used to monitor spacecraft cabin air.

LAMS is a flight air-monitoring system designed to continuously measure key constituents of the crewed spacecraft atmosphere, including oxygen (O), carbon dioxide (CO), and water vapor (HO). Leidos is currently producing LAMS flight hardware in support of NASA's Orion and Artemis missions.

Leidos is seeking a talented Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or similar Engineering student to support the LAMS program as an Assembly, Integration, and Test Engineering Summer Intern in Huntsville, Alabama.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to work directly alongside experienced engineers and technicians during an active flight-hardware production cycle. During the internship, the LAMS team will be executing hardware assembly and integration activities and progressing through system testing, verification, and calibration. The intern will have the opportunity to directly support these activities and gain hands-on experience with the processes required to build, test, and deliver hardware for a human spaceflight program.

As a member of the LAMS team, you will support multidisciplinary engineering activities involving mechanical hardware, electrical systems, optical components, software, manufacturing, test, and systems engineering. The position requires the ability to support multiple tasks in parallel, contribute effectively in a team environment, and communicate clearly with engineers, technicians, program leadership, suppliers, and customers.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support execution of flight hardware assembly, integration, and test activities for the Laser Air Monitoring System.
• Work alongside engineers and technicians during LAMS hardware build and integration activities.
• Support execution of engineering work instructions, manufacturing operations, assembly procedures, and test procedures.
• Support system functional testing, performance testing, and calibration activities.
• Assist with collection, organization, review, and analysis of test and calibration data.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of hardware, test, or integration issues identified during production.
• Assist engineers in evaluating test results against system requirements and defined acceptance criteria.
• Support development and revision of assembly procedures, test procedures, work instructions, and other engineering documentation.
• Support preparation for Production Status Reviews (PSRs), Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and other program technical reviews.
• Assist with documenting test results, engineering evaluations, and post-test reports.
• Support configuration management and documentation associated with flight hardware production and testing.
• Work collaboratively across mechanical, electrical, optical, software, manufacturing, quality, and systems engineering disciplines.
• Support engineering trade studies, problem solving, and continuous improvement activities related to LAMS production and testing.
• Assist with other engineering and program deliverables required to support successful execution of the LAMS program.

Basic Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university, with anticipated graduation in 2027 or 2028.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment with multidisciplinary teams.
• Interest in hands-on engineering, hardware assembly, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to perform physical work associated with hardware integration activities, including lifting up to 30 lbs.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn the use of common hand tools and laboratory/test equipment.
• Ability to work on-site in Huntsville, Alabama.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and work independently with guidance from senior engineers.
• Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technical subjects and adapt to changing priorities.
• Experience with CAD software.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PTC Creo or SolidWorks.
• Previous laboratory, manufacturing, robotics, Formula SAE, rocketry, CubeSat, senior design, or other hands-on engineering experience.
• Familiarity with basic mechanical and electrical test equipment.
• Experience collecting, processing, or analyzing engineering test data.
• Interest in spaceflight hardware, environmental control and life support systems, sensors, instrumentation, or optical systems.
• Strong attention to detail and an interest in working with flight-quality hardware and controlled engineering processes.
• Desire to solve complex technical problems and learn from an experienced multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Willingness to work on the shop, laboratory, cleanroom, or test floor during hardware build and verification activities.
