A. DUTIES:

Under general supervision handles customer credit problems for the entire service area at the Company's offices, at the customers' residences or places of business. Obtains information and enters data through the computer terminals; handles all customer credit problems in a warm, friendly, conscientious, tactful, and firm manner, to develop and promote the highest possible degree of customer and Company satisfaction, within the bounds of prescribes policies, and in accordance with the principles of good customer relations.

Under general directive supervision changes single phase, self-contained demand and non-demand electric meters, turns on and off electric meters, turns off gas meters, reads gas and electric meters; and occasionally in unsanitary or hazardous locations performs such duties as:

1. Performing routine work assignments in accordance with departmental instructions, procedures and standards in a manner which properly safeguards the public, employees, and property of others and the Company.

2. Using video display terminals for immediate accessing through the computer of various pre-formatted data extracted from the Master Record and subsidiary files; and interpret the coded information displayed.

3. Receiving money for new deposits, reconnection charges and outstanding bills at the premise, receipting and accounting for such payments or accepting payment arrangement for residential, commercial, as well as handling other Company funds, as directed.

4. Changing single phase, self-contained demand and non-demand meters.

5. Reconnecting and disconnecting electric service on single phase, self-contained demand and non-demand electric meters. Replacing fuses or resetting circuit breakers only on conjunction with the reconnection of the electric service and meter changes.

6. Installing all types of meter security locking devices and removing these devices with power tools if necessary.

7. Being responsible for the security of customer keys, assigned tools, instruments, and meter security devices such as barrel lock keys, pin pullers, blue numbered seals, etc. and using customer keys on all types of residential disconnect non-pay orders; including entering all single-family residences alone.

8. Disconnecting gas service, including non-pay disconnection orders.

9. Reading all gas and electric meters accurately, reading and resetting demand registers, and checking that electric service is available.

10. Checking all types of single phase, self-contained demand and non-demand meters for proper seals in place, unmetered wiring and reporting all discrepancies found.

11. Representing the Company in a positive manner at all times while performing Electric Meter Division duties on customers' premises, answering customer-related inquiries with a courteous and positive attitude with regard to established Company policies and procedures.

12. Instructing and directing employees in this or lower job classifications in the work and on standard practices and procedures, as assigned.

13. Keeping an accurate and legible written record of work performed as required.

14. Performing work of a higher classification on a temporary basis or when preparing for advancement.

15. Performing other similar or less skilled work as assigned.

16. Locating, cleaning, raising, lowering, replacing lid, or other parts of curb box; verifying service stop-cock for accessibility.

17. Driving delivery truck loaded with equipment, tools and materials to and from job locations and various headquarters.

18. Loading and unloading trucks and being responsible for materials being hauled.

19. Keeping an accurate record of equipment delivered to the various headquarters and replenishing the stock of various types of meters and metering equipment as required, returning equipment to shop; taking inventories of materials on truck.

20. Under close supervision, repairs single phase, self-contained watthour meters; performs unskilled work involved in maintenance of laboratory equipment; loads and unloads trucks.

21. Repairing, dielectric testing, cleaning or replacing parts of single phase, self-contained watthour meters found defective or dirty; removing demand registers from all types of watthour meters.

22. Repairing and painting meter housings, covers, trims, panels and other metering accessories; replacing broken glass inserts. Cleaning glass covers and rings.

23. Assembling, wiring, or repairing temporary meter boards and standard metering panels in accordance with standard drawings.

24. Repairing and assembling test blocks, enclosures, trims, meter sockets, and similar metering accessories.

25. Packing and unpacking incoming and outgoing meters and metering equipment and visually inspecting for damage and defects. Recording meter serial numbers and nameplate data either manually or with bar code reading system. Applying identification labels to the appropriate meters.

26. Assisting in the checking in of meters and metering equipment returned from service, including the recording of the final readings and the nameplate data.

27. Assisting with new meter tests in the shop by filling in meter history cards with meter number, make, size, date of test, and test results.

28. Checking registers against standard devices to determine that the register ratio is correct.

29. Preparing equipment and conductors for installation and connection by drilling required holes and knock-out conduit openings in meter enclosures, stripping insulation from ends of conductors, drilling and forming bus bar sections and similar operations.

30. Cutting, threading, and bending conduit, as required.

31. Assisting in all types of laboratory tests and maintenance of equipment.

32. Cleaning safety equipment and devices by soaking, scrubbing, and brushing with solutions of water and detergents.

B. QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet the Company's requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS; and, in addition:

1. Must have the ability to learn and apply the Company's safety rules and regulations pertaining to personal and team safety in the work environment.

2. Must possess tact and suitable personality for contact with the Company's customers.

3. Must be capable of making legible and accurate reports and records.

4. Must be able to use a telephone and two-way radio to receive orders and transmit information.

5. Must be able to drive, have a valid driver's license, and pass the Company's driver examination.

6. Must be capable of directing the work of employees in this job classifications.

7. Must be capable of lifting, carrying, erecting and working from a 24-foot extension ladder.

8. Must be capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 70 lbs.

9. Must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this job classification through the medium of tests, including material taught in training courses and practical job experience.

10. Must pass an examination as specified by the Department for entrance into the grade of Meter Tester's Assistant.
