Research Professional 4-Clinical Research

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery seeks a motivated individual to start in December 2026. Reporting to the Research Manager and working directly with department faculty, this position provides technical research and grant support for department faculty, staff, graduate/undergraduate students, and research collaborators. The role requires independent and complex decision-making daily and the ability to appropriately exercise discretion on when to elevate issues to the PI.

This position has two primary areas of responsibility: Collaborating with faculty and other research personnel to generate and plan research projects and providing statistical expertise and analysis.

Collaborates with faculty to generate study ideas, advises on study design, collaboratively writes grants, collects, manages, and analyzes study data, writes, edits, and submits manuscripts; takes ownership for delivering expected results. Liaise with department research staff, faculty, and learners to assist the research programs. Provides support in grant development and submissions.

Job Duties:
Scientific/Analytical (70%) of Time:

• Collaborate with faculty, learners, and other research staff to generate study ideas and execute study activities
• Develop strategic plan for initiation and execution of research studies including, where applicable, funding, regulatory, and recruitment/data acquisition\
• Learn and maintain awareness of the scientific and clinical literature related to orthopedic surgery, sufficient to develop and describe the scientific rationale underlying study designs.
• Advises faculty, fellows, and residents on study design and other study related statistical considerations
• Provides data management and analysis for faculty, fellow, and resident research projects as needed, including contributing to manuscripts and abstracts
• Contribute to and draft publication-quality reports of study progress and outcomes. This will include both textual and graphical design, with writing to communicate to audiences across a wide range of education and sophistication. This includes writing, editing, and submitting manuscripts and abstracts.
• Review ongoing study outcomes and monitoring data and recommend changes to study design as needed to achieve scientific goals.
• Liaises with department research staff to plan and execute study and grant activities
  

Regulatory (10%):

• Develop, write, and monitor Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols for research including prospective and retrospective studies

Coordinate staff in ensuring all regulatory requirements are met and documented

Grants (15%):

• Grant proposal preparation and submission including writing, planning, study design, and document preparation
• In collaboration with the Research Manager, develop, maintain, and track study budgets and associated documents, including budgets associated with grant submissions and progress reports

Other (5%):

• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• BS/BA with at least 5 years of related work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience to equal at least 9 years.
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge
• Data analysis proficiency using R, STATA, SAS, SPSS, or similar statistical software
• Demonstrated project management, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills with attention to details.
• Must have strong critical thinking, problem solving and data analysis skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and projects
• Experience in grant writing and funding acquisition
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
• Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scientific publication and/or presentation
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Pay Range: $36.54 - $41.35 an hour ($76,003- $86,008 annually); depending on education/qualifications/experience
