DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Patient Service Representative provides front-desk support and performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties in support of daily patient services within clinical areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Greeting patients and providing excellent customer service
  • Completing patient check-in and check-out procedures
  • Scheduling and coordinating appointments
  • Verifying insurance coverage and authorizations
  • Updating and maintaining accurate patient demographic information
  • Auditing billing documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Managing appointment dispositions
  • Collecting co-payments
  • Managing and monitoring the petty cash drawer
  • Collaborating closely with Center physicians, nurses, staff, and other UC San Diego Health departments
  • Performing other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of previous related experience in a large complex healthcare setting.

  • Strong knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.

  • Ability to work in an interactive environment and possess excellent customer service skills, both in person and over the phone.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated computer skills/ability to work between multiple systems during calls.

  • Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and sound judgment, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive patient information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in a fast-paced, multi-specialty clinic.
  • Authorization and registration experience.
  • Urgent (walk-in clinic) or Primary Care experience.
  • EPIC.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours based on business needs. Possible overtime.
  • Must be willing and able to float to other locations as requested.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,865 - $80,304 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.15 - $38.46

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
