The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit, applied research organization of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Founded in 1934 as the Engineering Experiment Station, GTRI has grown to more than 2,900 employees supporting eight laboratories in over 20 locations around the country.

The Research Information Systems Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the end-user computing environment. This position collaborates with researchers, IT teams, and administrative leaders to analyze complex requirements and translate them into robust system architectures. The Research Information Systems Architect leverages configuration management tools to effectively manage a fleet of heterogeneous systems, ensuring that workflows, platforms, analytics tools, and compliance systems are integrated, scalable, secure, and aligned with institutional goals. This includes compliance auditing and vulnerability and patch remediation. The role may also be responsible for ongoing operational computing activities, including but not limited to Windows, Mac, and Linux workstation provisioning, deployment, and maintenance.

Job Duty 1 -
Support end-user IT devices life-cycle management (designing, deploying, patching, maintaining, backups, security, networking).

Job Duty 2 -
Conduct information and security assurance systems research and integrate technologies into complex electronic systems.

Job Duty 3 -
Implement and maintain client and server software used to support project management and software development.

Job Duty 4 -
Support Cross Domain Data Exchange and Systems Integration.

Job Duty 5 -
Serve as a primary implementor of Infrastructure as Code for configuration management solutions.

Job Duty 6 -
Validate security control configurations on systems and ensure all systems are configured for necessary controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements.

Job Duty 7 -
Actively collaborate with external teams and stakeholders to derive tasks from detailed requirements and provide related work direction/tasking.

Job Duty 8 -
Provide software and merge request code reviews, serving as the primary gatekeeper for infrastructure as code merges.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

Required Experience
8+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience

Experience managing enterprise-class storage arrays (e.g. NetApp E-Series, NetApp ONTAP, iXsystems, TrueNAS, Pure Storage, Purify, OCI)

Experience with iSCSI, NFS, GlusterFS, Ceph, and S3 storage protocols

Experience supporting storage needs for environments using Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare, Nutanix, Rancher RKE2, Red Hat OpenShift

Experience with enterprise-class monitoring tools (e.g. Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, AIQ, Pure1)

Experience with infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python)

Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity concepts

Experience administering and architecting storage solutions in highly regulated environments (e.g. DoD, Financial, Healthcare)

Experience architecting and tuning storage solutions (e.g. Trident, Longhorn, PX-CSI, NFS, Block, File) for Enterprise Applications (e.g. Oracle ASM, IBM CPD, JFrog Artifactory & Xray)
