THE ROLE:

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Lead / Principal Systems Design Engineer to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD's product, you will be part of a leading team to drive and improve AMD's ability to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies to market. The Systems Design Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

THE PERSON:

As a leader in Systems Design Engineering, you will drive balanced, scalable, and automated solutions. In this high-visibility position, your systems engineering expertise will be essential to product architecture, platform definition, chipset, firmware and I/O subsystem integration, regulatory and environmental compliance planning, validation strategy, and root-cause resolution. You will work across silicon, firmware, hardware, compliance, and ecosystem teams to ensure successful deployment of complex client, workstation, and server platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Define and drive platform architecture and requirements for chipset and I/O subsystems, including PCIe, USB4, USB, SATA, networking, storage, security, and manageability features, while ensuring alignment with regulatory, environmental, energy-efficiency, and sustainability requirements.
• Lead technical evaluations, design tradeoff analysis, validation planning, bring-up, and debug activities across chipset, I/O, firmware, power delivery, thermal, and system-level subsystems throughout the product lifecycle.
• Collaborate with silicon, chipset, firmware, BIOS, validation, compliance, and ecosystem teams to ensure successful platform integration, feature delivery, certification readiness, and adherence to industry and environmental standards.
• Work with OEMs, ODMs, board vendors, and ecosystem partners to drive adoption, integration, and successful deployment of AMD platform technologies.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience defining platform requirements and system-level architecture for client, workstation, or server products, with strong knowledge of chipset technologies, platform controllers, firmware interactions, high-speed I/O interfaces (PCIe, USB4, USB, DisplayPort, SATA, Ethernet, SPI/eSPI, I2C/I3C, SMBus), and system-level feature integration.
• Experience with regulatory, environmental, interoperability, industry certification requirements, and associated standards, translating compliance and sustainability objectives into platform architecture and validation strategies while collaborating with ecosystem partners to achieve certification and market readiness.
• Experience developing customer-facing design guidance and technical documentation.
• Extensive knowledge of system architecture, platform design, validation methodologies, technical debug, and root-cause analysis across client, workstation, server, and mobile computing platforms.
• Understanding of power delivery architectures, platform security technologies, manageability solutions, and board-level design considerations.
• Experience collaborating with OEMs, ODMs, component suppliers, and strategic industry partners to define platform requirements, enable new technologies, and resolve technical integration challenges.
• Extensive experience with board and platform bring-up, debug, validation, and optimization using industry-standard lab equipment, including protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and signal integrity tools.
• Programming/scripting skills (e.g., C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to independently drive complex technical initiatives to completion.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
