Assistant Professor, Kinesiology

The School of Health Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is looking to hire a 9-month faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) to join their Kinesiology program. We welcome candidates with expertise in any area of exercise physiology, although candidates with a background in cardiovascular and/or cardiopulmonary physiology with a clinical focus are especially encouraged to apply, as these areas align with current program priorities. The successful candidate will join a program with active research faculty, strong connections to the local healthcare and education communities, and a school-level commitment to translational and community-engaged scholarship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Establish and maintain an active, externally funded program of research, with dissemination through peer-reviewed outlets
• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses aligned with area/s of expertise and program need
• Advise graduate students
• Provide service to the program, school, college, and university
• Engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative scholarship opportunities within the school

The selected candidates will be expected to maintain a 2:2 teaching load across the academic year, equivalent to 0.4 FTE, with allocation of remaining tenths related to research and service being negotiable.

This 9-month position at the rank of assistant professor has a preferred starting date of January 2027, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Kinesiology program is housed within the School of Health Sciences, which includes programs such as Athletic Training, Dietetics, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Physician Assistant, and Public Health. This multi-disciplinary structure creates frequent opportunities for interprofessional education and collaborative research. The Kinesiology program includes core faculty in two focused research disciplines: exercise behavioral science and exercise physiology. The program and/or school offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and participates in the interdisciplinary MPH program. The program provides a collegial and supportive environment that fosters high-quality research and highly ranked graduate programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in kinesiology or a closely related field
• Demonstrated or emerging record of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications and/or external funding commensurate with career stage
• Evidence of, or clear potential for, excellence in teaching at the graduate and/or undergraduate level
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills suitable for graduate student mentorship, didactic teaching, and interprofessional collaboration

The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Research program that encompasses human subjects/patients with a clinical focus
• Exercise-related certification (i.e., ACSM-EP)
• Experience with secondary analysis of large data sets using modern statistical techniques
• Experience establishing or participating in community outreach programs
• Record of, or clear interest in, collaborative and/or interdisciplinary research
• Experience with, or interest in, pursuing external funding from federal agencies (i.e., NIH, NSF, AHA)
