The Advising & Student Success Center in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Assistant Director. About the Opportunity The Assistant Director of the Eberly Advising Center provides direct academic advising to all ECAS undergraduate students while overseeing the day-to-day operations of a center serving approximately 4,100 students across 32 programs and 25 professional advisors. This role leads advisor training, professional development, and assessment efforts, and serves as the primary point of escalation for complex student, curricular, and departmental issues. The Assistant Director also supervises Advising Team Leads, maintains key relationships with academic departments and student support offices, and represents the center on university-level committees. Additional responsibilities include managing communication strategies within the advising community, supporting recruitment and orientation efforts, and performing other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Director. What You'll Do Academic Advising and Related Programming
- Develop academic advising to students and provide academic advising for students in select Eberly Majors (~60-100 students).
- Lead and develop assessment of academic advising, efficacy, and student satisfaction.
- Analyze and communicate the results of the student satisfaction survey with advising leads and Director.
- Serve as the first point of contact for student issues that raise to the college office.
- Serve as the second point of contact for academic departments.
- Organize and structure academic suspension process.
- Teach First Year Seminar as needed.
- Lead the Eberly Advisory Board for Academic Advising.
- Oversee transient coursework requests and approvals while adhering to the catalog policies governing transient coursework.
- Responsible for training and professional development of advisers, in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Dean.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Eberly Advising Center and the daily operations serving ~4100 students across 32 programs with approximately 25 professional advisors.
- Develop and run the Eberly Advising Center Navigate Kiosk to track and triage student traffic in the academic advising center.
- Serve on University-level committees related to advising, for example, Directors of Advising.
- Mine and analyze pertinent data reports to support the work of the Director.
- Participate in college level recruitment as needed (Decide and Discover open houses).
- Participate in New Student Orientation Academic Sessions in conjunction with the Assistant Dean and Director.
- Troubleshoot complex advising and curricular issues across all Eberly majors.
- Develop a communication strategy to disseminate information to the advising center.
- Communicate curricular updates with the Director of University Advising sharing amongst the advising community at WVU.
Supervisory and Administrative
- Serve as the primary liaison with chairs and undergraduate directors within Eberly's academic departments.
- Enforce Eberly Advising Center standard operating procedures.
- Train all incoming advisors into the center in conjunction with the team leads and Director of Advising.
- Serve as the first point of contact for student support offices (Veterans' Affairs, Admissions, Registrar, Financial aid etc.)
- Coordinate lead advisor involvement in the academic department/program.
- Lead the Eberly Advising Center's central chat to support advisors at every level.
- Plan, direct, and supervise the work of Advising Team Leads.
- Hold regular staff meetings.
- Support active engagement in with professional organizations such as NACADA for professional advisors.
- Partner with Career Development to identify experiential learning opportunities and professional development opportunities for professional advisors.
- Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Dean to ensure that their advising team has the information and resources needed to effectively advise students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Director.
Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience involving academic advising and student success in higher education.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

- Demonstrate adequate knowledge of financial aid compliance, athletics, academic forgiveness policies, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to manage various objectives, projects, and groups.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities and initiate work accordingly.
- Ability to supervise a staff of 4 to 6 advisors.
- Ability to learn complex and varied curriculum.
- Ability to work with diverse populations in a multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to comprehend and apply successfully the West Virginia University rules and policies for undergraduate students.
- Ability to learn to work with Banner, Navigate, DegreeWorks, ARGOS, and other data reporting systems.
- Demonstrated high level of ethics and integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to generate productive relationships with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques and processes.
- Demonstrated ethical practice and evidence-based approaches.
