Director of Development

General Summary of Position
The Director of Development serves in a dynamic and highly visible fundraising role that directly supports the missions of MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. The successful candidate in the role will be a relationship driven development professional to assist with leading major gift fundraising efforts for these two hospitals. The hospitals are grounded in deep community roots, have compelling clinical priorities, and meaningful opportunities for philanthropic impact across patient care, medical research, and education.

The Director of Development will play a critical role in advancing philanthropy for MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital by building strong donor relationships, partnering with clinical and administrative leaders, and connecting philanthropy to key service lines and initiatives. As part of the broader MedStar Health Philanthropy team, this position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, mission-focused environment while helping shape and grow a robust culture of giving across the two Baltimore hospitals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Manages a portfolio of major gift prospects.
• Develops and implements thoughtful strategic cultivation solicitation and stewardship plans for prospective donors for gifts of $100K+.
• Ensures regular contact with donors through various activities and communications especially face to face meetings.
• Develops and manages timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner
• Develops expertise in strategically aligned priorities of the healthcare system. Assists physicians program directors and administration with capital and programmatic funding needs.
• Manages internal and external key stakeholder relationships.
• Meets annual activity and financial performance metrics.
• Ensure that all donor contact is reported in the CRM.
• Supports philanthropy initiatives through participating and attending onsite activities as necessary.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor's degree in related field required.

Experience

• 5-7 years experience in philanthropy ideally within a health system setting required.
• One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated success in soliciting negotiating and closing gifts. Experience with planned giving. Knowledge of donor database and CRM software. Strong organizational skills. Acumen to engage and support senior leadership staff and volunteers in fundraising. A high level of professionalism creativity and integrity coupled with an ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of constituencies and develop relationships with key stakeholders.
