Summary:

UNC Health Rehabilitation Services is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist II to join our pediatric therapy team and provide specialized physical therapy services in the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at NC Children's Hospital. Our neonatal therapy program is integrated within a multidisciplinary model of care and works collaboratively with Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Child Life, Social Work, Respiratory Therapy, Dietitians, pastoral care, palliative care, nursing, and medical providers.

The Physical Therapist II will provide evidence-based evaluation, consultation, treatment, caregiver education, and developmental support for medically complex and critically ill infants. This role also contributes to interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical education, quality improvement, and advancement of neonatal physical therapy practice.

Hours: Monday - Friday, rotating weekends and holidays

Description of Job Responsibilities

1. Provides specialized physical therapy evaluation and intervention for infants in the NICU, using evidence-based practice and advanced clinical reasoning.
2. Develops and modifies individualized plans of care, identifies expected outcomes, manages resources to support patient goals, and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
3. Completes physical therapy documentation, billing, and required statistics according to team guidelines while managing the daily caseload efficiently while meeting established productivity expectations.
4. Partners with families and caregivers to provide education and support that promotes infant development, safe handling, positioning, and continuity of care.
5. Collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary NICU team to support coordinated, family-centered developmental care and safe progression through hospitalization and transition from the NICU.
6. Serves as a clinical resource in neonatal physical therapy and contributes to specialty program development, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
7. Mentors assistive personnel and supports onboarding, clinical orientation, and competency verification for new staff in accordance with licensing requirements and departmental standards.
8. Provides clinical education, precepting, and mentoring for students, fellows, teammates, and other disciplines and supports competency development in neonatal practice.
9. Demonstrates leadership, effective interprofessional communication, and commitment to professional development and high-quality patient and family-centered care.

Other information:
Education Requirements:
* Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina.
* BLS
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Five (5) years of experience as a licensed Physical Therapist, including one (1) year in the specialty field. Prefer experience in neonatal, pediatric acute care, or intensive care physical therapy.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Advanced level clinical skills as evidenced by specialty certifications, additional training and/or expertise in a given clinical specialty.
* Exhibits effective communication and interprofessional skills; requires physical stamina and repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, and squatting during patient interventions while supporting one's weight; can engage in high-level problem-solving to ensure patient safety during mobilization.
