SUNY Broome Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced part-time, temporary, provisional Children's Program Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the College's Kid Zone program.
SUNY Broome's Kid Zone is an evening and weekend program designed to support student parents while they attend classes, study, meet with faculty, or access other campus services. Located in The Commons, the Kid Zone provides a welcoming, secure, and supervised enrichment space for children approximately ages five (5) to twelve (12). Children will participate in age-appropriate activities, games, reading, technology, and other engaging experiences in a safe and supportive environment. The program serves up to ten (10) children at a time, with participation limited to a maximum of three hours per session.
This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for children while providing effective supervision and support to staff. The Children's Program Supervisor reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students, or designee.
This grant-funded position is anticipated to continue through May 17, 2027 (with the possibility of extension based on funding).
This appointment is provisional, pending successful completion of the Civil Service testing requirement.
Work schedule:
Monday through Thursday, 5: 15 p.m. to 9: 15 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 12: 45 p.m. to 5: 15 p.m.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure parents/guardians follow established drop-off and pick-up policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate records of each child's attendance and duration of stay.
Verify student status and estimated duration of program use.
Collect and maintain emergency contact information and required health documentation.
Conduct visual and safety observations of children upon arrival and document any visible injuries, signs of illness, or other concerns in accordance with established procedures.
Communicate health concerns to staff and parents/guardians in a professional and respectful manner.
Maintain appropriate capacity requirements and ensure children receive continuous supervision.
Maintain a clean, safe, secure, and developmentally appropriate environment, including play areas, toys, equipment, and childcare surfaces.
Make minor repairs to materials and equipment as needed.
Order and maintain appropriate supplies, snacks, materials, and equipment for the program.
Develop staff schedules, assign work, and provide day-to-day supervision.
Review and evaluate the performance of staff and provide appropriate feedback and guidance.
Carry out established emergency procedures and coordinate monthly evacuation drills and quarterly shelter-in-place drills in collaboration with SUNY Broome Public Safety.
Participate in required professional development, facility and campus emergency preparedness training, CPR/First Aid certification, and other health and safety training.
Document behavioral concerns and communicate with parents/guardians regarding related issues in a professional, respectful, and constructive manner.
Redirect children exhibiting inappropriate behaviors, provide corrective guidance, and implement appropriate interventions to maintain a safe and positive environment.
Ensure program activities and operations comply with applicable regulations, health and safety standards, and College policies.
Maintain accurate registration records, safety logs, and other required documentation.
Foster an environment that promotes teamwork, respect, cooperation, and positive interactions through appropriate role modeling.
Supervise subordinate staff, volunteers, and student interns, as applicable.
Requirements:
A minimum of an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.
Two years of experience working with children, including at least one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
Knowledge of young child development and behavior principles and practices.
Knowledge of effective childcare practices, parenting skill development, and the methods, materials, and equipment used in childcare programs.
Ability to oversee the daily operations of a childcare program and supervise staff,volunteers, and student interns.
Willingness to work in conditions that may involve noise, odors, or other challenging environments.

Additional Information:
The hourly rate for this position is $19.93.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
