Job Summary

The Property Accounting Intern will support the Property Accounting team with the accurate and timely completion of financial reporting for Cabot's real estate portfolio. Under the guidance of the Property Accounting Manager and team, the intern will gain hands-on experience reviewing daily transactions, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, property financial statements, annual budgets, and tenant-related accounting. This opportunity is well suited for an organized, analytical student who is eager to apply accounting concepts in a professional real estate environment.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

  • Assist the property accounting and property management teams with reviewing general ledger and subledger activity for assigned properties.
  • Help record daily cash receipts to tenant ledgers and research routine posting questions.

Financial Reporting

  • Assist with monthly and quarterly property financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with company policies.
  • Prepare assigned balance sheet reconciliations, operating expense reconciliations, and variance analyses for review.

Budgeting and Tenant Support

  • Support the preparation of annual property budgets and related schedules.
  • Assist with annual CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and supporting documentation.

Coordination and Project Support

  • Help maintain accounting deadline calendars, gather information, and follow up on open items to support timely reporting.
  • Assist with accounts payable invoice review, ad hoc property management requests, audit support, and other property accounting projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Coursework in financial or intermediate accounting preferred; prior accounting or real estate experience is helpful but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; exposure to MRI or another accounting system is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, and willingness to ask questions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across teams, and handle confidential information professionally.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Internship conducted primarily in a professional office environment.
  • Frequent use of computers and digital communication platforms.
  • Limited travel may be required for property site visits or team meetings.
