Fabrication Manager

Pay Rate: $125,000 - $140,000/year

Power Solutions International (PSI) is a leader in large gen-set packaging and enclosures. We provide turnkey, custom power packages that integrate alternators, cooling systems, controls, switchgear, cabling, and protection, delivered as containerized, skid, or walk-in solutions. Our team manages the full lifecycle from application engineering and 3D design to structural fabrication, wiring and piping, sound and thermal management, code compliance, factory acceptance testing, and site support. With scalable production capacity and disciplined program management, PSI delivers repeatable quality and reliable performance on complex builds for mission-critical and industrial applications worldwide.

Position Summary:

The Fabrication Manager leads PSI fabrication operations, including laser cutting, press-brake forming, welding, grinding, material handling, and the interface with powder coating. This role is accountable for safety, quality, schedule attainment, capacity, equipment readiness, labor performance, cost, and continuous improvement. The manager establishes disciplined daily execution, develops the team, and partners with Planning, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and EHS to deliver complete, conforming parts to production on time.

Essential Responsibilities:

Safety and Daily Leadership

  • Maintain a visible floor presence and ensure compliance with lockout/tagout, machine guarding, welding, crane, forklift, PPE, and other applicable safety requirements.
  • Lead daily accountability meetings using facts, priorities, actions, owners, due dates, and recovery plans; escalate risks early and constructively.
  • Model professional, respectful, and solution-oriented leadership that promotes ownership, urgency, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Production and Schedule Execution

  • Own fabrication schedule attainment and the safe, on-time delivery of complete parts and assemblies to internal customers.
  • Translate demand into daily and weekly plans for labor, machines, tooling, materials, and outside processing; balance work across shifts and constraints.
  • Track WIP, shortages, downtime, quality holds, and missed commitments; implement documented recovery plans rather than repeatedly moving dates.
  • Standardize point-of-use material locations, replenishment, visual controls, and routine audits for repeat products.

Fabrication Processes and Equipment

  • Direct laser cutting, CNC press-brake forming, welding, grinding, deburring, tooling, fixtures, CAD/CAM and nesting software and material-handling activities.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering to improve uptime, preventive maintenance, programs, tooling, changeovers, cycle times, and equipment capability.
  • Identify capacity constraints using demand, standard hours, cycle time, uptime, scrap, staffing, and shift assumptions; recommend labor, outsourcing, or capital solutions supported by data.
  • Support equipment installations, relocations, commissioning, validation, operator training, and performance verification.

Quality and Manufacturing Readiness

  • Ensure work is performed to current drawings, BOMs, routings, weld requirements, specifications, and approved work instructions.
  • Partner with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality to resolve manufacturability issues and verify readiness before production release.
  • Reduce scrap, rework, defects, and escapes through layered process audits, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and verification of sustained results.

Materials, Systems, and Cost Control

  • Maintain accurate Epicor transactions for labor, material consumption, WIP movement, completions, scrap, and inventory locations.
  • Work with Planning and Materials to ensure complete kits, correct priorities, and timely escalation of shortages that threaten the schedule.
  • Manage overtime, supplies, consumables, outside services, and departmental expenses; support budgets and capital requests with clear business justification and ROI.

People and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, team leaders, welders, machine operators, and support personnel across all shifts.
  • Establish staffing, skills matrices, cross-training, certification, succession, and coverage plans aligned with current and future demand.
  • Apply Lean principles to improve flow, standard work, workplace organization, labor efficiency, material utilization, and constraint performance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, operations, industrial management, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • 7+ years of progressive fabrication leadership experience in a complex manufacturing environment, including responsibility for multiple shifts.
  • Strong working knowledge of laser cutting CNC press brakes, welding, tooling, fixtures, drawings, tolerances, and fabricated metal assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead daily execution, recover missed schedules, analyze capacity, manage constraints, and deliver measurable safety, quality, delivery, and cost improvements.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, routing, standard labor, production reporting, inventory accuracy, and manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, budgeting, project-management, and cross-functional decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM and nesting software for laser cutting, including part programming, sheet optimization, material utilization, and scrap reduction.
