Position Summary: The Designer II is responsible for developing and implementing moderately complex new part designs and improving legacy products as assigned. The mid-level Designer II will be attentive to detail while completing tasks assigned by Design Engineers and/or the Manager, Design Engineering, with limited guidance needed. Working both independently and in a team environment, the Designer II will collaborate with R&D team members as well as with other departments including Manufacturing, Quality and Assembly. FLSA: Non-exempt Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create robust CAD models of complex parts and work with fully mated assemblies in SolidWorks.
- Generate functionally dimensioned, ASME Y14.5 compliant drawings including GD&T in SolidWorks. Perform basic tolerance stack analyses.
- Process change orders through the PLM system for the release and revision of parts, assemblies, and SKUs.
- Assist with testing and compilation of data as needed.
- Generate drawings with dimensioning, tolerancing, and datum structures which are optimized for both part functionality and ease of inspection.
- Assist in the manufacture of prototype parts and products. Manage prototype parts and product inventory.
- Must be able to travel infrequently.
- Engage in and actively volunteer for continuous improvement projects and tasks.
- Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
- Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures. Follow safe firearms handling practices and all range safety procedures when in the range area.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, and typically requires 3-6 years of previous work experience in a R&D environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
- Proficient using CAD software to create parametric solid models and fully mated assemblies with associated drawings, SolidWorks highly preferred.
- Skilled in using MS Office products including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Able to generate clear, fully dimensioned, ASME Y14.5 compliant drawings of complex parts using logical datum structures and functional dimensioning schemes. Familiar with GD&T symbology and understand how they control part geometry.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing methods including machining, metal injection molding, plastic injection molding, and stamping and fine blanking is required. Knowledge in material selection, heat treatment, and coatings preferred.
- Practical experience with basic mechanical assembly and troubleshooting methods. Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and suggest future action.
- Experience in using and maintaining firearms and/or related products preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
- Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
