Job Description

The Fire Protection (FP) unit oversees the site Fire Protection Program and provides the engineering resource to support operation, maintenance, and reliability of the site's fire protection systems while ensuring regulatory compliance. You will join a self directed team that delivers timely, high quality, integrated, customer service based engineering solutions for facilities supporting next generation naval propulsion systems.



Daily Activities may include:
* Maintain system reliability through a robust inspection, testing, and maintenance program; establish and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance efforts.
* Coordinate with Operations to manage deficiencies and ensure continued use of facilities; interact with building owners and multi discipline teams.
* Review facility designs for system compatibility and code conformance; perform code evaluations to support site operations.
* Assist in developing fire hazard analyses and facility assessments; perform system gap analyses and plan improvements aligned to the site mission.
* Provide direct support to the Knolls life safety infrastructure with primary cognizance of passive barrier and special suppression systems.
* Execute engineering evaluations and decisions across assigned tasks, including planning, design, modeling, analysis, development of contract technical specifications, local procedure document control, and testing of fire protection components, systems, and equipment.
* As related to fire protection and life safety, contribute to chemical/materials evaluations, design reviews, operations support, safety analysis, engineering methods/software, and vendor procedure/system quality control or manufacturing surveillance.
* Collaborate with Service Contract Work Administrators (SCWA) and support oversight of FP service subcontracts (alarm panels, sprinklers, special suppression, passive barriers, fire pumps).



Ability to qualify as a Limited Radiation Worker required for the position.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills

* Working knowledge of the ICC Codes/Building Code set for New York State and associated reference standards; familiarity with NFPA codes and standards.
* Experience with design and maintenance of fire protection systems, including alarm and detection, water and gaseous suppression, passive features, and means of egress.
* Basic understanding of electrical control circuits; fire alarm control panel and/or automated electrical control system knowledge.
* Experience developing engineering documents (e.g., analyses, technical specifications, functional requirements, cost estimates, drawings).
* Experience operating in multi discipline teams; strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay Range
$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
