Job Description

Are you interested in directing cutting edge testing on motor technologies supporting the platforms of today and the projects of tomorrow? Then this is the opportunity for you!



As a Motor Testing Test Director, you will get the opportunity to oversee the operations of flexible testing facilities designed to capture the data needed to support the Nuclear Navy. You will work with a team of talented technologists to execute the testing prescribed by test sponsors to provide high-quality test data used to validate proof of design concepts for potential fleet application. Responsibilities include:




  • All aspects of the conduct of testing for assigned facilities, including test schedule integration, project planning of facility modifications and coordination of engineering and craft resources.
  • Oversight of operations, testing, maintenance, and facility modifications to ensure test goals and objectives are met to the agreed to schedule.
  • Maintain configuration control of the facility and test stands.
  • Direct assigned technologists in the operation of the facility for testing and in the oversight of maintenance and modifications.
  • Provide technical leadership in testing.
  • Work with sponsors to identify and recommend technical improvements to advance testing capabilities.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of procedures and processes.
  • Use program management tools and techniques in executing the test program needs.
  • Ensure operator training, qualification, and development needs are met.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with required FMP Corporate and Non-Nuclear Test processes.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills

- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and experience reading schematics and prints.
- Experience related to reactor power plant design, operation, or testing.
- Previously qualified on Corporate Safety Chapters for electrical safety and hazardous energy control
- Familiarity with Primavera P6
- Experience in project management in a Project Engineer or Project Management role

Pay Range
$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards, satellite, and vendor locations.

For more than 75 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
