NORTHWEST IOWA POWER COOPERATIVE
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
POSITION PURPOSE: In accordance with Northwest Iowa Power Cooperatives (NIPCOs) mission, vision, values, goals, and initiatives, provide technical, administrative, and operational support to the Engineering & Operations Department through system documentation, CAD drafting, metering and billing support, member service programs, compliance reporting, data management, and general engineering support activities.
DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Engineering & Technical Support
- Prepare and maintain Auto CAD drawings and engineering records.
- Assist with GIS, document management, and electronic file archiving.
- Support project inspections, data collection, and engineering studies.
- Support drone piloting, photography, photo archiving, and policy compliance.
- Assist with surveying and staking needs.
- Perform other engineering support activities as assigned.
Billing, Metering & Data Management
- Support member billing and metering processes.
- Assist with monthly and annual reporting requirements.
- Collect, organize, and maintain operational and load data.
- Assist with forecasting and data analysis activities.
Member Services
- Administer and track energy efficiency rebate programs.
- Assist with distributed generation application processing and recordkeeping.
- Prepare graphs, reports, presentations, and member service documentation.
- Participate in member and stakeholder meetings as requested.
Compliance & Safety Support
- Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance documentation.
- Assist with IUC franchising activities.
- Maintain records associated with inspections, maintenance programs, and safety initiatives.
- Coordinate inventory and inspections of first aid supplies, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and FR clothing.
- Assist with reliability, environmental, and safety program administration.
Administrative Support
- Organize and maintain engineering files and records.
- Scan, archive, and manage electronic documents.
- Assist with easement, zoning, right-of-way, and property record administration.
- Provide support for departmental projects and special assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
High school diploma required. Associate degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or related technology field, or five or more years of engineering aide, drafting, or related electric utility experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Basic understanding of engineering and utility operations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn Auto CAD, GIS, and utility software applications.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to work effectively with internal staff, members, contractors, and outside agencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of member, employee, operational, and business information.
- Ability to follow safety rules, procedures, and instructions when working in or around electric utility facilities.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain FAA Part 107 remote pilot certification.
