Job Title: Tooling Engineer
Location: Plattsburgh, NY
Employment Type: 6-month contract, possible opportunity of extension depending on business needs
Industry: Transportation Manufacturing
Compensation: $32-$36/hour
Schedule: M-F, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM
About the Opportunity:
Join a fast-paced manufacturing environment where you'll play a key role in improving tooling organization, engineering documentation, and production data accuracy during a six-month assignment. You'll collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to inventory and organize tooling assets, update engineering drawings, and maintain accurate part, tooling, and bill of materials (BOM) linkages within the GSI system. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with experience in manufacturing, drafting, document control, or inventory management to make a measurable impact on production efficiency, data integrity, and process improvement.
What You'll Do:
* Conduct a comprehensive inventory of manufacturing tooling, including fixtures, dies, gauges, jigs, and specialty tools; establish organized labeling, storage, tracking, and check-in/check-out processes.
* Record and maintain tooling data, including part number associations, condition, calibration requirements, usage history, availability, and replacement needs.
* Review and update engineering drawings for accuracy, revisions, annotations, and production alignment while following document control procedures and archiving obsolete documents.
* Upload and maintain drawings and related documentation with accurate metadata, revision tracking, and links to applicable part numbers and BOMs.
* Enter, audit, and correct tooling, drawing, and item data within the GSI system, ensuring accurate records, linkages, naming conventions, attributes, and classifications.
* Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to identify data and tooling gaps and deliver final documentation, including a tooling database, drawing index, GSI audit report, and process improvement recommendations.

Job Requirements
What You'll Bring:
* High School Diploma or GED.
* Minimum 2 years of experience as a tool designer in a manufacturing setting
What Sets You Apart:
* Machining background
* Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CatiaV5) for basic drawing updates.
* Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems - specifically SAP
* Experience with GSI.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and routings.
* Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
