Low Voltage Cabling Technician

Location: Round Rock, TX
Schedule/Shift: Typically starts at 7:00 a.m., 40 to 45 hours per week
Pay: Up to $25.00 per hour
Position Type: Contract to hire after 640 hours

Job Summary

The Low Voltage Technician installs, tests, and troubleshoots structured cabling, commercial audiovisual systems, and security systems at local project sites. Projects include corporate offices, retail locations, schools, industrial facilities, and healthcare facilities. This role requires hands-on installation experience, the ability to interpret technical drawings, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Job Responsibilities



  • Pull, terminate, label, and test CAT3, CAT5, CAT6, shielded category cable, fiber optic cabling, and structured wiring.
  • Install commercial audiovisual equipment, including projectors, displays, speakers, microphones, cameras, screens, and mounting structures.
  • Install card access, CCTV, CATV, and intrusion devices according to engineered drawings.
  • Read AV one-line diagrams, blueprints, engineered drawings, and system schematics to determine cable routes and installation requirements.
  • Test and troubleshoot cabling, audiovisual, and security systems using toners, multimeters, continuity testers, and diagnostic tools.
  • Document installation work, test results, and system issues.
  • Communicate project updates and technical concerns to team members and clients.
  • Follow jobsite safety procedures and applicable installation and labeling standards.


Job Requirements



  • Hands-on experience installing, terminating, labeling, and testing low voltage cabling and structured wiring.
  • Experience installing commercial audiovisual equipment and security systems.
  • Familiarity with AV control and conferencing platforms such as Crestron, Biamp, AMX, Polycom, Cisco, and ClearOne.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, one-line diagrams, and system schematics.
  • Proficiency with cabling and system testing tools, including toners, multimeters, and continuity testers.
  • Ability to work safely around ladders, lifts, and confined spaces in commercial construction environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, documentation, and client communication skills.
  • Ability to commute to local project sites and work the required schedule, including overtime as needed.
