The Opportunity:

HDR is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience currently working in the field to join our diverse and talented team of professionals in the Denver area. We're looking for an intelligent, collaborative person committed to advancing their career in structural engineering by learning from the expertise of others and contributing to active project work from design through construction.

The Job:

In this position, you will be responsible for the production of design drawings, calculations, specifications, and staff training development. This dynamic individual will be engaged with both internal and external clients focused on the design and delivery of healthcare, higher education, aerospace, aviation, hospitality/hotels, commercial real estate, and mission-critical facilities. Other responsibilities include participating in marketing and project planning and serving as a representative of HDR to the local industry.

You must be an accomplished Structural Engineer who can use your accumulated expertise to impact the full project lifecycle from pursuit through final project completion. You must be a conceptual and strategic thinker who can engage and challenge our architectural and engineering designers during the early stages of projects to inform the conceptual design. You will leverage our integrated practice and your own deep expertise to add value to our project delivery process and lead engineering teams to deliver well-coordinated, high-quality designs.

You will work in integrated, multi-discipline design teams comprised of structural, electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental, and fire/life safety engineers; architects; and professionals and scientists from many other diverse disciplines from the inception of projects through the completion of construction. We will rely on you to:

  • Provide significant project structural engineering leadership in your areas of practice and market expertise.
  • Play a material role in business development efforts and growing HDR's market share in specific A/E markets using your expertise and professional network.
  • Demonstrate exceptional technical leadership on complex projects.
  • Take roles as Project Manager, Structural Engineer and/or Engineer-of-Record on selected projects.
  • Serve as technical leader on multiple projects involving complex technical challenges.
  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design teams through the full project lifecycle.
  • Prepare specifications and production of drawings (in collaboration with BIM designers) for construction documents.
  • Conduct QC and technical reviews and provide guidance on active projects.
  • Mentor and coach team members on the nuances of your professional market(s).
  • Work with leadership team to develop and organize program documents, calculations, drawings that can improve workflows and be leveraged where available from project to project for program efficiency and consistency.
  • Collaborate with HDR Architecture and Engineering teams on project pursuits.
  • Participate in discipline-level and project-level scope/fee development for project pursuits.
  • Participate in project interviews as an engineering leader.
  • Represent HDR through active participation in the professional community to build HDR's reputation as a world-class provided of professional services.
  • Perform other duties as needed for the advancement of HDR's stature and market penetration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis
  • Engineering experience and project history in Colorado in one or more of these market sectors: Healthcare, higher education, aerospace, aviation, hospitality/hotels, commercial real estate, mission-critical facilities.
  • Natural predisposition, experience, and success in architecture/engineering business development in Colorado and around the world.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years structural engineering experience as it relates to building design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood
  • Requires understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
