Job Description

We are currently seeking a Lead Financial Systems Analyst & Tableau SME to join our team in Springfield, Virginia supporting a government customer.

The Lead Financial Systems Analyst & Tableau SME gathers, analyzes, and interprets complex agency financial and performance data to provide insights that inform and improve the organization's decision-making process. The position is responsible for identifying, extracting, validating, and reviewing data from various financial systems of record for accuracy and consistency. The role uses advanced business intelligence tools and techniques-specifically Tableau dashboard architecture, automated ETL pipelines, and data modeling-to translate siloed datasets into meaningful analytical reports and visual outputs for senior decision-makers. Additionally, the Lead Financial Systems Analyst & Tableau SME interprets and applies federal financial regulations, policies, and procedures to guide senior management at the Directorate level and ensure ongoing audit readiness.

Tasks



  • Create advanced charts, graphs, interactive dashboards, and reports using Tableau to communicate financial findings to senior managers and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with and assist other team members in using data systems and understanding data management procedures to ensure consistency and alignment of information across project workstreams.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial data systems and Tableau Server environments to ensure data is stored, organized, and refreshed efficiently for real-time access and analysis.
  • Maintain and organize automated data files and pipelines for resource allocation, budget formation, spend plans, and execution tracking.
  • Identify and resolve data issues, optimize dashboard and server efficiency, and recommend improvements to financial data management systems and governance policies.
  • Derive meaningful metrics from various federal data feeds and systems of record to provide valuable insights to leadership and inform decision-making.
  • Ensure coordination, data integrity, and completeness of financial data analysis provided to agency leadership.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement through analysis at the Directorate level to optimize financial performance and automate reporting workflows.
  • Review data changes to, and draft recommendations for, financial management policies, tracking compliance against standards like OMB Circular A-123.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience:




  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field such as Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Information Systems, Data Analyticsor equivalent work experience

    ANDTarget 12 years of relevant experience (budget/finance/resource management) within IC or DOD*At least 6 years of those years must be relevant experience in Tableau development and data visualization, including a minimum of 1 year supporting IC financial environments. Relevant experience must include a combination of the following: extracting, validating, and structuring data from federal/IC financial management systems; translating complex programmatic and budgetary datasets into interactive executive dashboards; connecting data from relational, flat-file, and cloud-based sources; and handling Tableau Server administration, user migrations, or data governance.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge and understanding of federal financial regulations, budget cycles, and policies; ability to apply analytic techniques to evaluate programmatic data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Advanced, expert-level proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Cloud) to present data findings visually to enhance understanding and executive decision-making.
  • Knowledge of database structures and project management concepts; analytical abilities to compile, structure, examine, and present substantial financial datasets with meticulous precision and thoroughness.
  • Ability to use scripting languages (such as Python, R, or SQL) to build automated data refreshes and manipulate underlying datasets.
  • Superior communication and presentation capabilities, adept at conducting requirement-gathering sessions and simplifying complex data insights for audiences without a technical background.
  • Ability to identify stakeholders, lead projects or workstreams independently, and effectively gather requirements for data management-related tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive self-starter capable of developing, prioritizing, and executing tasks independently while providing clear guidance and mentorship to other team members.
