JACKSON ELECTRIC MEMBERSHIP CORPORATION POSITION DESCRIPTION Engineering Representative POSITION OBJECTIVES: To provide members with a personalized and courteous serviceusing efficient design and staking engineering practices that will deliver economical and reliableservice to our members and help meet the objectives of the Engineering Department; and towork and communicate in a team oriented environment in accordance with the vision, mission,and values of the Cooperative. . MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS: All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individualswith disabilities. EDUCATION: Require a high school diploma or equivalent. Require courses in high school orbeyond in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and CAD drafting. Prefer two (2) years of post-highschool education. Prefer course work in drafting, engineering or computer science. EXPERIENCE: This is an entry level position, and there are no minimum experiencerequirements. Prefer experience with land survey crews, operation of transit and use oftechnology as it pertains to CAD drafting. Prefer experience in electrical distribution includingstaking layout for construction, mapping and line construction specifications. KNOWLEDGE: Require the ability to develop a working knowledge of the required educationalsubjects as applied to staking and system mapping. Require the ability to develop a thoroughworking knowledge of JEMC staking activities, JEMC construction specification manual,geographic information system, work order processes, and customer relations. Require theability to proficiently utilize all computer systems used in the work order process, including thework order program, customer information system, and automated staking system. Require the ability to develop a working knowledge of the basic principles of electricity and A C circuits.Require willingness to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside andoutside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and acceptincreasing responsibilities. SKILLS: Require effective leadership skills, excellent professional communication skills, bothwritten and oral and the ability to work in a team environment. Require the ability to apply therequired technical knowledge to accomplish the staking and design of basic line extensions withnormal supervision. Require the ability to apply codes and procedures, and exercise judgmentin their broad aspects for occasional independent action or decision. Require the ability to meetschedules and standards of assigned work and contribute to an effective flow of work. Require the ability to develop and maintain effective supportive relationships, influence others to thedesired course of action in contacts with members in discussion of problems and gain andacceptance of the Cooperative's policies, rules and regulations. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS AND CONDITIONS: Reports to: District Engineering Supervisor or Field Engineer II or Director, System Engineering,as assigned by area Directs: None Internal: Actively participates within the Cooperative team environment to develop supportiverelationships essential to the success of the functions of this position and to the overallCooperative spirit. External: Develops and maintains supportive relationships with member/consumers, the generalpublic, and other external contacts to assure positive results. This position is primarily sedentary work; requires visual acuity in machine operation withinspection; requires ability to hear, talk, and perform repetitive motions; and is not substantiallyexposed to adverse environmental conditions. The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions thatare incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. This document does not create an employment contract, implied orotherwise, other than an "at will" employment document. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Generate work order package according to departmental procedures. Proficiently utilizeall computer systems used in the work order process, including the work order program,customer information system, and automated staking system. 2. Work with member consumers and builders to answer questions and provide technicalinformation. 3. Be familiar with standard utility materials and construction methods to provide expertisein the design and layout of electrical construction. 4. Coordinate job assignments with JEMC personnel, other utilities and governmentalbodies, including obtaining required permits, obtaining underground conductors locates,and work involving joint use agreements. Obtain right-of-way easements and properly fillout all related documents as required. 5. Compute overhead and underground service cost estimates for supervisor approval 6. Communicate with members regarding provisions of the JEMC Service Rules andRegulations, requirements for service, timetables of construction, electric rate schedules,and fees for services provided by JEMC. 7. Assist in maintaining territorial integrity and make proper determinations regarding theservice area in which prospective consumers are located. 8. Develop a working knowledge of the basic principles of the National Electric Code (as itapplies to requirements of construction by members and interface with the utility), theNational Electric Safety Code (as it applies to appropriate clearances to the lineconstruction design, including all vertical and horizontal clearances and clearances toother utilities), RUS line specifications, and the Cooperative Service Rules andRegulations. Require an understanding of the procedures which relate to assignedresponsibilities. 9. Develop a working knowledge of state and local DOT requirements and regulations.Prepare all applicable and necessary permits. 10. Make mapping error corrections in the field or office as required. 11. Provide engineering field assistance to operations personnel as required or directed. 12. Provide technical assistance during emergency outages as required or directed. 13. Attend job training and safety meetings as required. 14. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's SafetyManual. 15. Attend and participate in annual meeting as required or directed. 16.
