Assistant Teaching Professor of Violin

Job Description

The University of Missouri School of Music invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Violin. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track appointment to start in August 2027.
We seek a collaborative and dedicated artist-teacher to join our string faculty and continue to build and maintain a successful violin studio. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate applied violin, including weekly studio class; coaching chamber music; supervising undergraduate and graduate recitals; teaching string methods for undergraduate music education majors and other courses in the areas of string performance, repertory, and pedagogy, as assigned. The candidate will participate in all string area activities, including recruitment, auditions, juries, and outreach as well as other standard departmental, university, and professional service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
* Earned Master's degree in Violin Performance
* Evidence of effective teaching and performing

Preferred Qualifications:
* Earned Doctorate in Violin Performance or equivalent professional experience
* Evidence of success in teaching, recruiting, and retaining high-level undergraduate and graduate violin students

Candidates will be evaluated on:
* Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels
* Demonstrated excellence in applied violin instruction
* Experience teaching string repertory, chamber music, orchestral excerpts, and/or related courses
* Record of creative or scholarly productivity related to violin performance (solo, chamber, orchestral) and teaching
* Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and mentor undergraduate and graduate string students
