Position Summary
Winston-Salem State University is seeking a Space Management Coordinator.
The Space Management Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the allocation and utilization of university space. This position oversees office relocations, departmental moves, space inventories, and campus space planning initiatives to ensure university facilities are used efficiently and strategically.

Responsibilities of the Space Management Coordinator include:

  • Maintain the university's space inventory database, including office, classroom, laboratory, storage, and support spaces.
  • Evaluate requests for new or modified space assignments.
  • Coordinate campus-wide space utilization studies and occupancy assessments.
  • Develop space allocation recommendations aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Prepare floor plans and occupancy reports.
  • Assist in long-term campus space planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate office relocations and departmental moves from planning through completion.
  • Develop relocation schedules and timelines.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between departments, Facilities, IT, Custodial Services, and moving contractors.
  • Coordinate furniture installation, surplus removal, and equipment relocation.
  • Ensure telephone, network, and technology services are scheduled prior to occupancy.
  • Conduct pre- and post-move inspections.
  • Resolve issues that arise during relocation projects.
  • Work with Design & Construction on renovation and remodeling projects.
  • Coordinate occupancy planning for newly renovated or newly constructed facilities.
  • Track project milestones and provide status updates to university leadership.
  • Maintain accurate space assignment records.
  • Generate reports on space utilization and occupancy.
  • Prepare presentations and recommendations regarding campus space usage.
  • Meet with department leaders to understand space needs.
  • Communicate project schedules and expectations.
  • Provide guidance regarding university space policies.

Department Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience in facilities management, project coordination, space planning, or office relocations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or space management software.
  • Experience with project management software.
  • Familiarity with state construction and space utilization guidelines.
